POA Book Discussion Thread

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
This thread is for the discussion of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban book.

Please keep on topic to only the plot of the third book so you don't spoil any newcomers to the rest of the series who haven't read any further. Thanks.

I loved PoA because it was really Emotional. We found it some things about James and Lily.
I love Sirius too
PoA Was the first one in which I choked up. When Sirius was talking about James and Lily...

PoA is my second favorite book of the series. I love it. All the mystery, the Sirius story and the R/Hr love/hate relationship.

I think PoA is my favorite book - I like that we get so much info on James, Lily, and all the marauders. I really loved Lupin in this book and I kind of wish that J.K. would have expanded more on that. One of my favorite moments from the entire series is when sirius yells he would have died rather than betray his friends. I don't know why but it really shows how much sirius loved james and all his friends.

That was one of the best moments too. You can see how much trust and love went into Sirius and James' relationship. It made me really sad. Remus too, he was great.
Ron and Hermione were great. Crookshanks a little creepy.

hey everybody!

I really liked PoA. It most of all comes to me as the perfect execusion of the crime-story principle of presenting the real villain as the non-hero-character least likely to have committed the crime. Could anyone ever during first read suspect Scabbers?

the time travel was really well described. it is the chapters i have read the most times. I can really feel Harrys puzzlement at seeing his past self

Ok, Bailey, I'll take you up on the offer from the JM-board, and is here to play

As I said, I love the theme of this book. the obvious mislead in making it so clear that Sirius were the villain, without saying anything that couldnt be taken back

and the time-turner! A very good way to do timetravelling! better than most other timetravel-plots I have read

Hee! I love it when people actually take me up on my offers.

Yeah the misdirect is something that Jo excels at. And at this point in the story even the die hard fans aren't use to looking out for the clues that she might be trying play us. But I loved how in the end Sirius turned out to be the one Harry and reader champions.

As for the time-turner sequence. I remember actually feeling somewhat bored when the replay was happening. Strange I know, but I distinctly remember telling my co-worker at the time, who gave me the first 3 books to read, that I didn't like that part maybe because it felt like it was recapping too much as to what happened before. I don't know. But yes the timeturner device itself was rather ingenious. I am a little surprised that Hermione was given the turner though. Yes she's responsible and all that but still, a 13 year old with such a powerful tool. Or was this Dumbledore's knowhow to convince McGonnagal to let her have it because he knew the she would need it to eventually help Harry.

that is a likely theory Dumbledore is after all known to know everything...

I was really there with Harry in the time travel. feeling the bizarre strangeness of watching himself from the past, and imagining what could have happened if his past self actually met him. (not just saw him from a distance)

hermione getting the time turner was probably a careful decision...i don't think it was made with the decision for her to help harry....dumbledore isn't omniscient after all

Does anyone have both the adult and childrens eddition of POA? I always thought they contained the same content only different covers. I was going to buy the hardback (because my paper back is in naff condition), but realised the adult version was thicker than the childrens, so I thought no I'm imagining things and put them side by side and sure enough the adult version was thicker. Why is this? Does the adult version contain some extra content?

No it should be the same. It could be the paperstock or the font size or what have you that makes it appear bigger. There's no editing down for the kids version so don't worry. The only thing different is the cover. As it should be.
