Watched HBP again last night after sometime, and I have to say, it is my absolute favourite of the bunch -- no question. The coloring/cinematography, the pace, and the score (which gives it an almost tangible ambiance) is breathtaking. It was also my favourite book (mostly due to the insight we are given to Voldemort's eerie past).

I still got chills watching Slughorn's memory scenes. Frank Dillane really did a phenomenal job with such little screen-time.... So captivating and full of charm, while instilling a delicate uneasiness within the audience. Though ambiguous, you could just sense something sinister about his character, a sort of evil lurking beneath. I just loved his delivery of "Of course, sir. It'll be our little secret." That, coupled with his refined appearance (perfectly combed hair... pale, smooth skin) did it for me. He was just the perfect teenage Tom Riddle in my eyes. Coulson's portrayal of Voldemort just came off as too loud and proud down in the Chamber, Though he certainly looked the part, I did not find him to be intriguing at all... Dillane (along with Felton, Gambon, and Broadbent stole the film, IMO).

While the other Voldemort memories in the book weren't included in the movie (perfectly understandable), I would have still loved to see them translated onscreen.

My apologies for the nostalgic post, but I just LOVE this film.

Edit: Even made some icons!

110% agreed, Mandy. Teenage Riddle was my favourite. Christian Coulson definitely lacked the "evil lurking beneath" element as you mentioned. He wasn't calculating enough for my liking; Dillane definitely was. That scene w/ Slughorn creeps the hell out of me -- Riddle looked like was ready to commit genocide. And him fiddling with Marvolo's ring (who's son he has already murdered) while talking about horcruxes.... yikes.

Care to share? I can never find any good Tom Riddle icons (particularly of Dillane). I love your icon, BTW.

Hi to everyone else! I'm Sam.

Hello Mandy and Sam!

I agree as well. Teenage Voldemort was creepier and he had that twinkile in his eye that he was up to no good. Brilliant acting.

I thought child-Tom Riddle was creepy, too. Just that eerie look in Hero's eyes and even his tone of voice added to the character for me.

No one can really be a "fan" of Voldemort, I think. The actors are an exception of course.

Yes, of course! That's what I meant.

I still find the character of Voldemort (mainly him as a child/teenager quite intriguing -- this is of course before he transformed into something completely heinous). We don't get too much insight into his history (aside from a few chunks in HBP), which were my favourite parts.

His past is definitely intriguing. I've often wondered how he dealt with his teachers and students while he was in Hogwarts.
