Because of this family history, it can also explain why Tom behaved the way he did and wanted more power for himself. Thus eventually getting himself on the dark side.

He was left by his mother at the orphanage and died during childbirth. He's a half-blood, with a muggle father and a witch mother.

Yes. If his mother is alive, she'd still abandon Tom. Because he did not grow up experiencing any love, he'd still be a villain.

I don't think his parents really loved each other. For starters his father is a muggle and his mom is a witch. I don't really remember or have read any more in-depth story about his parents but for Riddle to have such a dark past explains what he has become in the future.
