~ What Others Have Said About Our Favorite Couple ~

The plan was, which I really hope I fulfilled, is that the reader, like Harry, would gradually discover Ginny as pretty much the ideal girl for Harry. She's tough, not in an unpleasant way, but she's gutsy. He needs to be with someone who can stand the demands of being with Harry Potter, because he's a scary boyfriend in a lot of ways. He's a marked man. I think she's funny, and I think that she's very warm and compassionate. These are all things that Harry requires in his ideal woman. But, I felt — and I'm talking years ago when all this was planned — initially, she's terrified by his image. I mean, he's a bit of a rock god to her when she sees him first, at 10 or 11, and he's this famous boy. So Ginny had to go through a journey as well. And rather like with Ron, I didn’t want Ginny to be the first girl that Harry ever kissed. That's something I meant to say, and it's kind of tied in.

One of the ways in which I tried to show that Harry has done a lot of growing up — in “Phoenix,” remember when Cho comes into the compartment, and he thinks, ‘I wish I could have been discovered sitting with better people,’ basically? He's with Luna and Neville. So literally the identical thing happens in “Prince,” and he's with Luna and Neville again, but this time, he has grown up, and as far as he's concerned he is with two of the coolest people on the train. They may not look that cool. Harry has really grown. And I feel that Ginny and Harry, in this book, they are total equals. They are worthy of each other. They've both gone through a big emotional journey, and they've really got over a lot of delusions, to use your word, together. So, I enjoyed writing that. I really like Ginny as a character.

How were the scenes with Harry's new girlfriend in the movie?
Harry dates Ginny. There is a really funny scene about this. In the beginning, Ginny dates Dean Thomas, and Ron says: "You have to hate anyone who goes out with their sister as a matter of principle". Harry, ashamed, says: " Yeah, I suppose so….". He gets a little embarrassed. It's even more complicated than dating Cho. But it's a sweet and important story in the movie.

The train began to move. Harry saw the boys' mother waving and their sister, half laughing, half crying, running to keep up with the train until it gathered too much speed; then she fell back and waved. Harry watched the girl and her mother disappear as the train rounded the corner.

"Ginny!" Harry muttered, sprinting to her and dropping to his knees. "Ginny -- don't be dead -- please don't be dead --" He flung his wand aside, grabbed Ginny's shoulders, and turned her over. Her face was white as marble, and cold as ice, yet her eyes were closed, so she wasn't Petrified. But then she must be --
"Ginny, please wake up," Harry muttered desperately, shaking her. Ginny's head lolled hopelessly from side to side.

"You've got to help me, Tom," Harry said, raising Ginny's head again. "We've got to get her out of here. There's a basilisk...I don't know where it is, but it could be along any moment.... Please help me --"
Riddle didn't move. Harry, sweating, managed to hoist Ginny half off the floor, and bent to pick up his wand again.

"Ah, there's Penelope!" said Percy, smoothing his hair and going pink again. Ginny caught Harry's eye and they both turned away to hide their laughter as Percy strode over to a girl with long, curly hair, walking with his chest thrown out so that she couldn't miss his shiny badge.

"He -- er -- just asked Fleur Delacour to go to the ball with him," said Ginny. She looked as though she was fighting back a smile, but kept patting Ron's arm sympathetically.

"She's part Veela," said Harry. "You were right -- her grandmother was one. It wasn't your fault, I bet you just walked past when she was turning on the old charm for Diggory and got a blast of it -- but she was wasting her time. He's going with Cho Chang." Ron looked up. "I asked her to go with me just now," Harry said dully, "and she told me." Ginny had suddenly stopped smiling.

"Harry, I'm talking to you, can you hear me?"
"Huh?" He looked around. Ginny Weasley, looking very windswept, had joined him at the library table where Harry had been sitting alone.

"You seem really down lately," Ginny persisted. "You know, I'm sure if you just talked to Cho..."
"It's not Cho I want to talk to," said Harry bruskly.
"Who is it, then?" asked Ginny, watching him closely.
"I...." He glanced around to make quite sure that nobody was listening; Madam Pince was several shelves away, stamping out a pile of books for a frantic-looking Hannah Abbott. "I wish I could talk to Sirius," he muttered. "But I know I can't."
Ginny continued to watch him thoughtfully. More to give himself something to do than because he really wanted any, Harry unwrapped his Easter egg, broke off a large bit and put it into his mouth. "Well," said Ginny slowly, helping herself to a bit of egg too, "if you really want to talk to Sirius, I expect we could think of a way to do it...."
"Come on," said Harry dully. "With Umbridge policing the fires and reading all our mail?"
"The thing about growing up with Fred and George," said Ginny thoughtfully, "is that you sort of start thinking that anything's possible if you've got enough nerve."
Harry looked at her. Perhaps it was the effect of the chocolate-Lupin had always advised eating some after encounters with dementors-or simply because he had finally spoken aloud the wish that had been burning inside him for a week, but he felt a bit more hopeful....

A roar of celebration erupted from the hole behind her. Harry gaped as people began to scream at the sight of him; several hands pulled him into the room. "We won!" yelled Ron, bounding into sight and brandishing the silver Cup at Harry. "We won! Four hundred and fifty to a hundred and forty!
We won!" Harry looked around; there was Ginny running towards him; she had a hard, blazing look in her face as she threw her arms around him. And without thinking, without planning it, without worrying about the fact that fifty people were watching, Harry kissed her. After several long moments – or it might have been half an hour – or possibly several sunlit days – they broke apart.

None of the Death Eaters moved. They were waiting: everything was waiting. Hagrid was struggling, and Bellatrix was panting, and Harry thought inexplicably of Ginny, and her blazing look, and the feel of her lips on his—

Look, you can even tell Ginny's eyes have "dark circles" under them! Kristin (I think it was her anyway) said that Ginny arrives with red eyes because of a fight with Dean. You can tell!

Holy freaking hell ! Sorry if I burst someone's ear drums but gosh, I squealed hard.

I LOVE this !! It's so cute and look at Harry standing up as Ginny arrives. And I just LOVE how they are totally staring at each other and the guy in the middle looks like he knows he's interrupting. Is it me, or does one of them look like Robert Knox ?

Anyways, I am kinda bummed cause I wanted to save this scene for the movie and being surprised. But ok, we have the almost kiss and this .. we still have Harry staring at Ginny through the windows and them crying in each others arms so that's good enough to "surprise" me in the movie ... THIS IS JUST SO AWESOME. Ahem. Done now.

And oh, lovely title and congrats on becoming an uncle Kyle !

Your mention of HIMYM made me consider how the characters would think of the books.

Marshall: He'd love them and has spent time on the messageboards arguing about how things would end. Started reading fanfic when he was out of law school and unemployed.

Lily: Would have read them because of Marshall and because she likes to keep up with what's popular with her students. Not a part of online fandom.

Robin: Would not read them--they're kids' books and she's no longer a kid.

Barney: Would say he read them so he could score with fangirls but would secretly be into it as much as Marshalll. Plus, he'd really identify with Harry's father issues and probably cried (secretly, of course) at the epilogue.

Ted: Read them because Marshall and Lily read them. Total shipper and since I'm an H/Ger, I'm going to say he's one too.

The reason why I decided Barney secretly loved the epilogue was:

1) Harry marrying Ginny. He'd probably think, "Oh, yeah. No point in getting married unless she's hot. Plus, a natural redhead. A rare member of the female species. Extra hot." Later on, after finding out Ginny was a Quddicth player, he'd give Harry even more points for marrying a woman who knew what to do with a broom. Plus, athletes have a lot of stamina.

2) The kids. Barney loves kids even though he'd deny it with his last breath. Harry telling Al he'd love him no matter what probably started the tears flowing. If Barney was really overcome with emotion, he probably called Marshall about it because Marshall is the only one who understands his HP love.

3) Barney was also probably relieved Harry didn't die. Marshall, in one of their many secret conversations, has told him over and over again that Jo wouldn't let them down, Harry would live, but you can never really be sure. Jo, after all, had no problem killing Sirius. (Barney cried over him too.)
