She's tough, not in an unpleasant way, but she's gutsy. He needs to be with someone who can stand the demands of being with Harry Potter, because he's a scary boyfriend in a lot of ways. He's a marked man. I think she's funny, and I think that she's very warm and compassionate. These are all things that Harry requires in his ideal woman. But, I felt — and I'm talking years ago when all this was planned — initially, she's terrified by his image. I mean, he's a bit of a rock god to her when she sees him first, at 10 or 11, and he's this famous boy. So Ginny had to go through a journey as well. And rather like with Ron, I didn’t want Ginny to be the first girl that Harry ever kissed. That's something I meant to say, and it's kind of tied in. One of the ways in which I tried to show that Harry has done a lot of growing up — in “Phoenix,” remember when Cho comes into the compartment, and he thinks, ‘I wish I could have been discovered sitting with better people,’ basically? He's with Luna and Neville. So literally the identical thing happens in “Prince,” and he's with Luna and Neville again, but this time, he has grown up, and as far as he's concerned he is with two of the coolest people on the train. They may not look that cool. Harry has really grown. And I feel that Ginny and Harry, in this book, they are total equals. They are worthy of each other. They've both gone through a big emotional journey, and they've really got over a lot of delusions, to use your word, together. So, I enjoyed writing that. I really like Ginny as a character. ~ JKR ~ "I'd have to say that I was incredibly thrilled that Ginny and Harry got together!" - Chris Rankin - "My character has played her part and played it well, and now it's Ginny's turn, just as it happens in the books. | Some people may not like H/G's first kiss being in the ROR but it actually works along with what happend in the books in a sense. In HBP, JKR cleverly places a lot of parallel's between Cho and Ginny, with Ginny coming out on top everytime. Ginny beats Cho at Quidditch when they both play seeker, Ginny isn't an "emotional hosepipe" like Cho is which is one quality Harry doesn't like in a girl and in HBP we see Harry mature and realize who he was in OOTP was a from a different time completely. Sirius' death forced him to grow up which meant leaving childish crushes like he had for Cho behind while in HBP he was ready for a more adult relationship which leads us to their first kiss in the movie in the ROR. It is a parallel to Cho juts like JKR did in the book. He kisses her in the same place as he did Cho but the meaning and context behind it is completely different. Harry didn't actually know Cho very well when he kissed her, he just thought she was pretty so he had a crush on her so it made sense that their fist kiss would be under mistletoe. It showed it wasn't that serious because it was almost like they kissed because it was tradition. I am not saying they didn't want to kiss but if they didn't see that mistletoe above their heads would they have kissed right then and there? Who knows but I tend to think not. It didn't come across as very meaningful to me except for the fact that it was Harry's first kiss. He didn't even seem to enjoy it, he said it was wet for goodness sakes! Compare that to his reaction when he kissed Ginny, their kiss meant a lot more. Anyway, back to the parallel, by having Ginny and Harry kiss in the ROR it brings this parallel front and center. The reason they kiss at this moment is based off of something far more meaningful than because of a crush and some mistletoe. By this point Kloves and Yates have developed the relationship far more than they did with Cho and this shows how important Ginny has become to Harry. It also appears, he chooses her to help him, not Ron or Hermione. Therefore, it makes their kiss mean even more. Plus you can see in the picture of them how much closer they are standing together compared to Harry and Cho which shows how much closer they are. So I think Yates and Kloves might have actually followed what JKR did in the books with the parallels between the two girls. They both have their first kiss with Harry in the ROR, but one is cleary shown as more important thus implying Ginny beats Cho and is the girl for Harry. | |||

| I think the kiss will work out. When people complain about no build up in the last 5 films, they under estimate Harry. Harry is a guy, and guys fall for girls on a spur of a moment. Ginny makes jokes about Fleur, Harry is deeply amused, he is over Cho, so he falls for her, and it builds up from there. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. | |||
