I think she's reacting to the middle name "Severus".

It just makes me think of that game Rachel and Ross played with baby names. They could veto a select number of names for their kid that they didn't like.

I think Harry was sneaky, spouted out all these ridiculous names for her to veto and then when her number ran out, he stuck her with Severus.

Maybe Ginny had really bad pregancies and was so out of it that she didn't even care at the end of the day.

I need a Jo interview so we can pick her brain about some of this

I read one fic where Harry felt obligated to name Al after Snape, but he didn't want too. Then Ginny pointed out that Snape would hate it if they named their son after him, in the hospital, so they did out of revenge and to get Harry's nagging feeling to leave him alone.

I have no issues with James or Lily's names. They're normal, everyday names. They are after his parents, so there's that frame of reference of "wait, we already know James and Lily from somewhere else..." but many characters in the series are named after other people, so I don't really mind that aspect.

Albus, on the other hand, especially mixed with Severus... is a strange name. Thankfully the family calls him Al. And strangely enough, Al's nickname makes his name the most unique to me, since no one else goes by Al in the series.

Al is a cute nickname. It's totally his. No one call Dumbledore 'Al' so even if Al is named after him, the name sort of becoming his own now.

And all I can say is thank God they don't call him 'Sev'.

I never had an issue with any of the Potter kids names. I don't understand why people think everyone (or Harry) would expect them to act like their grandparents or Dumbledore or treat them like they were. When you name a child after someone, particularly if it's someone who has died, that child immediately begins to create his or her own identity. The moment James Sirius Potter was born, he was his own person--he had his likes and dislikes, his own unique personality--and everyone who knew him began to associate the name James Potter with a little baby and not a man who died tragically young at 21. Considering what we know of James and what he believed in and died for, that's probably the way he'd want it.

A little off topic, but not completely since it goes with our thread title. But I finally watched Roger Rabbit yesterday! It was fun because I ended up remembering a lot as I watched. The movie is really quite awesome. Jessica/Roger = hawt adorableness.

Until Jo tells me otherwise, Harry's nickname for Lily is Lil'bit.

Absolutely. I see them honoring those that they lost but also creating a new association to a name that perhaps might have been thought of in negative light like Severus.

At first, I was quite surprised that Harry had named his son Severus, but then...well, that's Harry...

Awww... Lil'bit, cute nickname

Some fics I read had Harry & Ginny call James as Jamie. I thought it's cute. I like the name Jamie.

Though for me, it's just James.

I know someone who's named James, who we all called Jamie until he insisted that he be called James. Maybe, James Sirius was like that too.

What about Jim? Jimmy? I think that would be cute. Maybe not british but whatever. My dad is a fourth generation James. And the only people that call him James are the telemarketers.

I like Jamie as well, especially while he's young. It seems to fit what we know of his personality, and it also fits his age; I really like the name James, but it always struck me as very weighty, very much a grown man's name.

I think in little0bird's fics, James is occasionally called Jemmy by his mum and dad, so there's another option. I don't really like it that much, though, tbh. And anyway, I think it's actually supposed to be a nickname for Jeremy.
