~ What Others Have Said About Our Favorite Couple ~

The plan was, which I really hope I fulfilled, is that the reader, like Harry, would gradually discover Ginny as pretty much the ideal girl for Harry. She's tough, not in an unpleasant way, but she's gutsy. He needs to be with someone who can stand the demands of being with Harry Potter, because he's a scary boyfriend in a lot of ways. He's a marked man. I think she's funny, and I think that she's very warm and compassionate. These are all things that Harry requires in his ideal woman. But, I felt — and I'm talking years ago when all this was planned — initially, she's terrified by his image. I mean, he's a bit of a rock god to her when she sees him first, at 10 or 11, and he's this famous boy. So Ginny had to go through a journey as well. And rather like with Ron, I didn’t want Ginny to be the first girl that Harry ever kissed. That's something I meant to say, and it's kind of tied in.

One of the ways in which I tried to show that Harry has done a lot of growing up — in “Phoenix,” remember when Cho comes into the compartment, and he thinks, ‘I wish I could have been discovered sitting with better people,’ basically? He's with Luna and Neville. So literally the identical thing happens in “Prince,” and he's with Luna and Neville again, but this time, he has grown up, and as far as he's concerned he is with two of the coolest people on the train. They may not look that cool. Harry has really grown. And I feel that Ginny and Harry, in this book, they are total equals. They are worthy of each other. They've both gone through a big emotional journey, and they've really got over a lot of delusions, to use your word, together. So, I enjoyed writing that. I really like Ginny as a character.

Harry dates Ginny. There is a really funny scene about this. In the beginning, Ginny dates Dean Thomas, and Ron says: "You have to hate anyone who goes out with their sister as a matter of principle". Harry, ashamed, says: " Yeah, I suppose so….". He gets a little embarrassed. It's even more complicated than dating Cho. But it's a sweet and important story in the movie.

The train began to move. Harry saw the boys' mother waving and their sister, half laughing, half crying, running to keep up with the train until it gathered too much speed; then she fell back and waved. Harry watched the girl and her mother disappear as the train rounded the corner.

"Ginny!" Harry muttered, sprinting to her and dropping to his knees. "Ginny -- don't be dead -- please don't be dead --" He flung his wand aside, grabbed Ginny's shoulders, and turned her over. Her face was white as marble, and cold as ice, yet her eyes were closed, so she wasn't Petrified. But then she must be --
"Ginny, please wake up," Harry muttered desperately, shaking her. Ginny's head lolled hopelessly from side to side.

"You've got to help me, Tom," Harry said, raising Ginny's head again. "We've got to get her out of here. There's a basilisk...I don't know where it is, but it could be along any moment.... Please help me --"
Riddle didn't move. Harry, sweating, managed to hoist Ginny half off the floor, and bent to pick up his wand again.

"Ah, there's Penelope!" said Percy, smoothing his hair and going pink again. Ginny caught Harry's eye and they both turned away to hide their laughter as Percy strode over to a girl with long, curly hair, walking with his chest thrown out so that she couldn't miss his shiny badge.

"He -- er -- just asked Fleur Delacour to go to the ball with him," said Ginny. She looked as though she was fighting back a smile, but kept patting Ron's arm sympathetically.

"Huh?" He looked around. Ginny Weasley, looking very windswept, had joined him at the library table where Harry had been sitting alone.

"You seem really down lately," Ginny persisted. "You know, I'm sure if you just talked to Cho..."
"It's not Cho I want to talk to," said Harry bruskly.
"Who is it, then?" asked Ginny, watching him closely.
"I...." He glanced around to make quite sure that nobody was listening; Madam Pince was several shelves away, stamping out a pile of books for a frantic-looking Hannah Abbott. "I wish I could talk to Sirius," he muttered. "But I know I can't."
Ginny continued to watch him thoughtfully. More to give himself something to do than because he really wanted any, Harry unwrapped his Easter egg, broke off a large bit and put it into his mouth. "Well," said Ginny slowly, helping herself to a bit of egg too, "if you really want to talk to Sirius, I expect we could think of a way to do it...."
"Come on," said Harry dully. "With Umbridge policing the fires and reading all our mail?"
"The thing about growing up with Fred and George," said Ginny thoughtfully, "is that you sort of start thinking that anything's possible if you've got enough nerve."
Harry looked at her. Perhaps it was the effect of the chocolate-Lupin had always advised eating some after encounters with dementors-or simply because he had finally spoken aloud the wish that had been burning inside him for a week, but he felt a bit more hopeful....

A roar of celebration erupted from the hole behind her. Harry gaped as people began to scream at the sight of him; several hands pulled him into the room. "We won!" yelled Ron, bounding into sight and brandishing the silver Cup at Harry. "We won! Four hundred and fifty to a hundred and forty!
We won!" Harry looked around; there was Ginny running towards him; she had a hard, blazing look in her face as she threw her arms around him. And without thinking, without planning it, without worrying about the fact that fifty people were watching, Harry kissed her. After several long moments – or it might have been half an hour – or possibly several sunlit days – they broke apart.

I still find it funny that Entertainment Weekly figured it was no big deal to spoil their readers about Harry's outcome.

I think for anyone not to know what happened in Harry Potter, or who he married, that person would either be living under a rock, deaf or blind

Its nice to see that the media is finally giving the attention the HG romance should have gotten a long time ago

And its already refreshing to see "Harry Potter" mentioned in the same sentence with "Ginny Weasleys, his future wife."

Whenever we get stuck in a rut I think it's because there's nothing to discuss on the movie front and nothing is happening media wise. It's a good idea to start talking about the books because even if it's retreading old ground from years ago, there are a lot of new people here who can bring a fresh perspective. I was surprised by how fast the discussion went though--we posted nine pages worth of discussion yesterday.

As for EW basically telling everyone that Harry lives, well I think that is just one of those pop culture facts that is now common knowledge like Rhett leaving Scarlet. Whether Harry lived or died, it was going to be news especially if he had died. I do think they could have kept quite about Harry being married though.

I just hope that my co-worker who just finishing HBP right now and will start on DH any moment wasn't spoiled by it. There's actually lots of people out there that haven't read DH but are still planning to before the end of the film series is released. Those that only recently have discovered the series after the hype has died down. Why should their enjoyment be ruined? So for their sake, I felt bad.

Harry has found Ginny attractive in COS, yet he wasn't really nervous when he started talking to her. She was the shy one so I guess in a way it made him more comfortable to talk to her, to show he won't burst into a ray of sunshine or something.

I wouldn't say that Harry found Ginny attractive in Cos, he just didn't find her annoying which in a twelve-year-old boy is unusual.

Harry's actions in CoS totally cement his place in the Weasley family. I think the Weaselys would have been on his side of the war if CoS had never happened, but Harry saving Ginny's life gives them another tie to Harry, another reason to fight for his side. They already know how far he's willing to go for someone else. As for the Weasleys, they're the family that shows Harry what life could be like--they're the opposite of the Dursleys. Their home is a mess, they're poor, yet Harry finds a joy in the way they live their life that is missing from the Dursleys.

That was one of my favourite lines in HBP. It tells you a lot about Harry and I especially surprised at how violent his thought could be towards anyone who dared to steal his girl, even his own dormmate. Poor Dean, if only he knew what Harry wanted to do to him.

But jealous!Harry is one of the best!
