That's true. Snape was definitely being bullied and that didn't help with his self-confidence so that might also trigger him closing off on Lily since she became friends with the Marauders.

I wish Snape stood up and defended himself too. Sadly Lily was his only friend and maybe he didn't like confrontation so he closed off.

I don’t think Snape ever really had self confidence issues. He’s always been very strong with confidence and if he weren’t the book/films did not portray that. He got bullied by the boys, but it didn’t stop his friendship with Lily or others. I don’t think it’s a case of self confidence to stand up for yourself, it’s self-respect. Snape didn’t care that he got bullied by them because he despised everything BUT Lily.

^ He has when he was kid until he start to hang out w/ Death Eater, that's how he get confidence bec w/o them, he wouldn't have that strong-head and do things.. But hey, that's just me..

I'm actually okay with them not ending up together cause theirs is a tragic love story. They can never be and yet probably they can still be if Snape acted on his feelings and didn't become a Death Eater, then they could be together.
