This is a thread dedicated to Jk.Rowling where we can wax poetically about how awesome she is and to discuss the latest news about her and any interviews with her.

Like this one from the Girl Guides of Scotland.

If anyone finds other interviews (old or new) please feel free to post them here.

I have a feeling the book will do good. Hopefully she'll tell us more information about her book soon. :)

You're welcome.
My friend and I were talking the other day about it and she agreed that just because the story was about growing up doesn't make it exclusive for kids to enjoy. If we adults didn't like Harry Potter there wouldn't be half as many kids who would read it in the first place. A strong pull for readership is getting the parents and adults on board first, then the kids come. That's how this whole phenomenon started in the first place! Parents and teachers were the first to jump on the fan bandwagon.

My niece would never have read the books if she hadn't heard me and my brother talk endlessly about it. She wanted to see what all the fuss was about so she began reading the series. Now she's read it 5 times more than any of us!

Super happy to hear about the new series.

Let the speculations begin. ;)

Thanks for that link - I love the last idea of an encyclopedia - completely grasping at straws but I'm going to pretend for a little bit that that's what it is :D That would make my year!

I do wonder when we'll get more info...

It's amazing to have something to wait for again :D

The billionaires club has hit J.K. Rowling with a banishing spell. According to the newly updated Forbes Rich List, the Harry Potter author has gone from billionaire to millionaire (several hundred times over, of course). She apparently broke a few rules of how to stay rich by giving away a lot of her fortune — reportedly $160 million of it — to charity and by paying her top-rung British taxes.

There’s no way that the socially minded Rowling, who once lived on welfare, gives two Quaffles about her standing on the list, and no one should shed a tear over a stratospherically rich woman becoming slightly less so. But I always liked knowing that an author of imaginative, timeless, honest-to-goodness books became a billionaire.

No matter the reasons for series' popularity, its reach and influence cannot be understated. The "Harry Potter" series has sold over 400 million copies worldwide. There have been numerous studies on Harry Potter presented at academic conferences; it has been the subject of Ph.D. dissertations; and some university courses even focus exclusively on the works of J.K. Rowling, placing her series "in its social, cultural, and educational context and understand[ing] some of the reasons for its popularity." There is an International Quidditch Association with 400+ colleges and 300+ high schools composing its membership. The Harry Potter Alliance, a human rights group comprising "an army of fans, activists, nerdfighters, teenagers, wizards and muggles dedicated to fighting for social justice with the greatest weapon we have – love." Countless theme parks have been developed on the basis of the books. J.K. Rowling herself has created a new interactive website (launching in April), Pottermore, based on the books.

Great post! I don't think anyone can understimate the power that the series have and the impact it had on people of all the generations that were lucky enough to live in the "Harry Potter" time. You can love Harry Potter, you can hate Harry Potter, but either way you still know it exists and you know it is huge.

Can I please be added to the list if I'm not already? :flowers:

Btw, I'm so wondering what a new JKR book will be about? I know she says it is nothing like HP and I'm actually excited to read something different from her... I'm just wondering about the genre.

L i N d $ @ y 03-12-2012 03:57 PM

Added you. :)

There are a lot of theories/speculations about what JKR's book will be. It's interesting to read everyone's guesses actually. But yes, it will be nothing like HP.
