This is a thread dedicated to Jk.Rowling where we can wax poetically about how awesome she is and to discuss the latest news about her and any interviews with her.

Like this one from the Girl Guides of Scotland.

Here's a couple of snipits from the interview.
Quote:
Because of the huge fame of the Harry Potter novels - and therefore great expectations surrounding them, how do you stop that from impacting how you develop the story or characters?
I am very protective of my characters and the storyline; I stick fiercely to what I believe is right for them even if I know that it will make some fans unhappy (for instance, some of the romance in book six disappointed readers who were hoping for other pairings).

However, resisting this kind of pressure is not as difficult as you might think, because I did a lot of planning in the seven years between having the idea for the Potter books and the publication of 'Philosopher's Stone', so I have a kind of map to keep me on track.
....
If you wrote your autobiography - what would you like its title be?
'Tell them I'm Dead, I'm Trying to Write'. Self-explanatory, I think.
How great is this woman!?

If anyone finds other interviews (old or new) please feel free to post them here.

ETA: Here's the Rant she posted on her site talking about thin girls.
Quote:
Maybe all this seems funny, or trivial, but it's really not. It's about what girls want to be, what they're told they should be, and how they feel about who they are. I've got two daughters who will have to make their way in this skinny-obsessed world, and it worries me, because I don't want them to be empty-headed, self-obsessed, emaciated clones; I'd rather they were independent, interesting, idealistic, kind, opinionated, original, funny – a thousand things, before 'thin'. And frankly, I'd rather they didn't give a gust of stinking chihuahua flatulence whether the woman standing next to them has fleshier knees than they do. Let my girls be Hermiones, rather than Pansy Parkinsons. Let them never be Stupid Girls.

Thanks Jennifer.

Just to clarify for those who lurk but don't feel comfortable for whatever reason to post, this thread is the celebrate JKR as a writer and as a person. And it doesn't matter what faction of the fanbase you are from, you are welcome to post here if you appreciate JKR. The purpose of this thread was not to cram anything down anyone's throats or for any other reasons. I simply wanted to start a thread so that we can talk about her work and the positive impact that she's had on our culture.

For the record, JKR is not against any one ship. She's stated that she encourages fanon in all forms but when speaking about her story, she very much about canon because it's her baby. She's an honest person who always speaks from the heart in her interviews. She helps clarify our questions and leads our discussions and theories as any creator should. Without spoiling any plots, she keeps our interest piqued. She challenges new thoughts and sets us straight when we're going down the wrong path. If anything, the fanbase should be grateful to her for being as communicative to her audience as she is. I don't know of any other author out there that is so connected to their fans and they way they think and feel as she does. That is why I give her props as much as I can. Because whenever I see someone belittling her work and her interviews just because they felt hurt with her truthful answers, I feel like shouting from the rooftops. "Why are you a fan of the books then?" If it wasn't for JKR we all wouldn't be here. We wouldn't have fallen in love with her characters. If you love these characters then you must show some respect to the person that gave birth to them. It's completely an insult to her and her work to say that she's playing with the fans -implying that she's lying and therefore whatever she says needs to be taken with a grain of salt or never believed. She speaks the truth. And therefore whatever she says IS canon. And I respect her for standing up for what she believes in and speaking her mind. If she said you misunderstood the context of her story then guess what? You did. There's nothing malicious about that. It's just the truth. And there comes a point in life where you just have to accept her story and move on. Dwelling on disappointment is no fun.

I haven't even started on how influencial she is outside the HP realm. Her charity work and generosity, her family values. I mean there's a reason with the Girl Scouts asked her for an interview. She's the definition of a role model.

She's has the sharp mind of Hermione; The unlimited imagination and open spirit of Luna; The wit and determination of Ginny of and the nurturing instinct of Molly. What more can we ask for?

Consider it done Cara. We're the two lonely supporters right now. Hopefully more will come on board.

Very well said.

Add me to the list as well, please. Not only do I love her writing, but JK seems like such a decent, down to earth person.
