| HPB spoiler policies - PLEASE READ and RESPOND! Hello my fellow HP lovers! With less than 50 days until the publication of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, some of you are starting to worry about where you will be able to discuss the book and all the little details concerning your favourite 'ships. As you all know the posters on this board are from all over the world. For many of us English is not the native language. That means not all of us will want to or be able to read HPB in English. It is going to take a while though before the book will be published in all the other languages. I know the German HPB will be published October 1st. In order not to spoil those of us who will not be able to read the book in July, we have to find a solution regarding spoilers. First of all we ask you not to post any spoilers in your signature. Also make sure your avis don't include spoilers. Someone told me after the release of OotP some people had avis showing a big black dog and saying "R.I.P." If that's not a spoiler tell me what is. So please be very aware of what you put in your avis and signatures. We also ask you to post a spoiler warning when posting links to other websites or pictures, fanart and avis that may contain spoilers. As for the discussion of HBP, we have come up with 3 possibilities. 1. We have one HBP discussion thread. The rest of the board will stay spoiler free. This means that everything – including everything concerning your favourite ships – will be discussed in this one thread. The result will probably be that we are going through one HBP discussion thread a day and it's going to be very hard to follow the discussion if you don't happen to be online 24 hours a day. 2. We have one HPB discussion thread. In addition to this, the 'shippers will be permitted to post spoilers in their threads, if – and only if – they post a clearly visible spoiler warning before posting spoilers. This means the general plot will be discussed in the HBP discussion thread. Everything 'shipper related can be discussed in the existing 'shipper threads. Even though we ask you to post spoiler warnings before spoilers, I believe it will be inevitable that others who haven’t read the book yet will be spoiled. So they would either have to take the risk of being spoiled or they would have to stay away from their 'shipper threads. 3. We have one HBP discussion thread and in addition to the existing 'shipper threads a second Auror thread, a second Sidekicks and one thread for all the other 'ships where spoilers will be permitted. Again, the general plot will be discussed in the HBP discussion thread. The Aurors and Sidkicks get an additional thread where to discuss anything related to their 'ships, and there will be an additional thread for all other 'ships. This may lead to some confusion because we are going to have two Auror threads and two Sidekicks threads (one with spoilers, one spoiler free for each 'ship). It may make it hard for the 'shippers to follow their discussion. These spoiler policies will stay in effect until we think they are not needed any longer. We will inform of when that will be. These are our suggestions. Please let us know what you think and which solution you prefer. If you have any other ideas on how to handle this issue, feel free to post them here. | Read it. I like the second one because the third one could get very confusing and the first might cause a couple of problems. | Read and understood  I personally favor solution Number two. I think the first one is asking for trouble amongst the shippers and the third one has the potential to be very confusing. So yeah, i think Number two will work best. | |||

| I too am voting for the second. I think if the majority of shippers were talking in the spoiler thread the other would die off pretty quickly. We'll just all have to be very disciplined with our spoiler tags. The first, i think, could be a disaster in the making. | I've the rules and possibilities of what can be done about spoilers and I think you've had good ideas. I don't think there should have to be rules, but in a message board kind of setting that's never going to be a possibility. I think as long as people are considerate with their avatars and signatures (which I think was the best part of your post that you mentioned that first) in addition to clearly marking things as a SPOILER in big flashing neon that it should be fine. People are going to get spoiled. As I said it's never not going to happen in a message board setting. Too many rules is just going to make it not as much fun as it could be. I think having like one to, I don't know, five? HBP threads that people know will contain spoilers wouldn't really be too confusing. One for the main story, one for the shippers, one for speculations, and so on. I have to agree that probably the second possibility is the best. Your idea about a spoiler thread for speculations is good. But we already do have a thread for rumors and speculations and since it is not that active I think it would do to just post your speculations with spoiler warnings in that existing thread. I know some people have already left so that they won't come across anything and I'm going to try and stay away the day before until I'm done with the book (Thats my plan, but it probably won't happen). Spoiler warnings are the best and easiest thing to deal with. I know there's a spoiler thread already and I'm sure it's not very active now. The new speculations that came up from OotP have probably been talked to death by now. I'm just kinda pointing out that there will be a new spike in interest when HBP comes out.
