HP Movies Discussion Thread - Rank your favorites

So I was out last night with a few friends and we discussed the Harry Potter movies and which ones we really liked, which ones we thought were ok but not the best out of the bunch. And yes, thankfully I have many friends who love Harry Potter as much as I do which rocks since we can actually sit at bars and instead of discussing which guy or girl is hot we sometimes go with Harry Potter as a topic of conversation! LOL. Getting my significant other to like Harry Potter is a task I'm trying to handle and conquer, though.

Anyway, enough of my ramble...

So what do you think about the movies?

Here's my favorite to least favorite:

1. OotP
2. GoF
3. PoA
4. CoS
5. PS/SS

That's simple enough. LOL. But I essentially feel like they keep getting better as we move along. Probably because the actors have improved and the story, in itself, gets more complicated and interesting as well.

What about everyone else?

thanks for opening this thread. i'll explain it even more to say that this thread will discuss all 5 movies.

actually i liked how POA was portrayed to movies from the book. there were a lot of cut parts in GOF and OOTP but that was expected. i also enjoyed SS but then COS came which was better than SS, i think.

ETA: changed the thread title as well.

so why did you like OOTP? what made you say, after watching the movie "okay, this one is my absolute favorite HP movie!"?

Hmmm. We already have threads to discuss the movies. How will this one be different Michelle? I just need clarification.

Mitchy, the brutally HOT (she so is ) and best Everwood Moderator in history of FF, thanks for the thread, I love it!

Ranking them I would go with you, awesome one:

1. OotP
2. GoF
3. PoA
4. CoS
5. SS/PS

I loved OotP since it just flowed and moved so beautifully. My interest was there the entire way through. I think with SS/PS and CoS to a lesser degree, I watched and really could sometimes check the time, pause for a second and not care too much. With OotP and GoF, no way, I was glued. PoA, I liked, but the director wasn't my favorite, his style didn't do it for me that much but it was still quite enjoyable.

ETA: I think Michelle was going for the ranking of them, right, Mitchy? That was her first reasoning, to see what everyone thought as far as which movies were their favorite and least favorite? She originally had the thread titled "Rank the movies, favorite to least favorite" but it was changed so that's what she was going for.

Yes, exactly what Erin said. I started the thread with the content being about ranking the movies from favorite to least favorite, that was my intention of the thread. That was my title, as Erin stated.

And LOL Erin. You surely know how to embarrass me, thanks so much for that, dude. LOL.

Alright. Just as long as if you get in the specifics of each movie like HBP news or OotP DVD news and such that they be directed towards their own threads and not posted here. This thread is just for comparing all the films in general.

Mitchy? ...really?

My ranking

OotP
PoA
GoF
CoS
PS/SS

I adored PoA and thought it was beautifully shot. The colours were so gorgeous and they really stood out for me. But so far OotP has been far and away the best overall film. From characterization to editing I thought it was superior over the others.

That said, I still like going back and watching the first one. It will always hold that nostalgic fuzzy feeling where the kids were just so darn cute, you didn't care about the small details like we do today now that they've grown and are more professional.

Perfect.

I know it. Apparently Erin likes to tease me, most people I know do NOT call me that. LOL.

Agree completely. Everything about this film was hitting and sticking so beautifully. I know someone who has never read the books but is an avid movie lover and said this was his very favorite movie because he really "felt" the Harry Potter story based on this movie. He's almost to the point of picking up PS/SS and beginning to read the books based on how much he loved OotP.

Of course. Where it all started. I remember first watching this movie in the theater and my jaw was on the floor about 90% of the time due to being so amazed by Rowling's world. I couldn't believe how much it moved me.

okay mine are:

1. POA
2. GOF
3. OOTP
4. SS
5. COS

weird huh? i think i watched GOF 4 times. but i really enjoyed POA and the movie was told beautifully. they cut out lots of parts from GOF & OOTP but they're still my favorites. i really liked SS since it was the first, i actually looked forward to the rest of the movies after watching SS. but each movie just got better and better. i think i'm gonna like HBP & DH the most when it comes out.

noted. i guess you really enjoyed watching OOTP huh? GOF had the scariest start.

Mine would be a little different than yours .

1) GoF
2) OotP
3) SS
4) CoS
5) PoA

I liked PoA the least. I thought it was slow and that there wasn't any advancement with the plot except for Sirius, even though I liked the book a lot better . GoF was the best in my opinion, because the triwizard champoinship made it much more suspeseful and interesting. OotP is close behind or even at the same level. The movie that was the closest to the book would be SS, that's why I really liked it.

How about a book ranking thread ?

and its funny that POA is your least favorite. COS was the slowest one for me. and Gilderoy was the weirdest DADA teachers you'll ever get. GOF was pretty action-packed, the first movie i actually felt teary-eyed.

^^ Yeah, I didn't like Gilderoy either, but at least CoS had the basilisk and all the fuss about the schol closing for good. But PoA didn't really have as much as it should, especially in the movie.

I like this thread.

1. GOF
2. OoTP
3. PoA
4. COS
5. PS/SS

I decided that I like GOF better then OotP. Ootp was great and everything, and I guess they pretty much tie when I think about it, but GOF had everything I love in HP mixed in. The Action, the back story, the comedy, and the little bit of romance as well. It was a bit jumbled, compared to Canon, but I still loved it, because over all the flow of the movie was perfect. Also, Harry and Ron's friendship was nicely shown.

OotP was awesome, I love how we got to see Harry's inner power struggle, and the great father/son moments with Sirius and Harry (Dan and Gary TOTALY owned those), and then the great final scene at the DoM, and ofcourse Sirius death was just brilliantly done. Not the mention awesome acting coming from Dan, Emma and Rupert. Emma was a lot better then she was in GOF, with her boucing eye brows. And Dan only gets better and better, and Rupert did great the scenes they did give him. But I guess that's the reason I didn't like it, I wanted this movie to be either all about Harry, or more about the sextet and the trio. They weren't fair to Rupert/Ron at all.

PoA was the first one in which I cried in. I loved finding out more about the past of James and Lily. Lupin/David was absolutely wonderful, and Gary was a PERFEC serious. I just didn't like what they had done to Ron again, they are really very unfair to his character.

COS and PS/SS are lower for the obvious reasons. Columbus totaly stripped them down to nothing. I understand that some things can't be on screen like they were in the book but what happened there was just insane.

Holy crap that was Long...

ashlie! i love your post! you are such a HP fan!

i'd have to say i love POA because of Gary Oldman. he is the perfect Sirius Black. when he got casted, i was so looking forward to watching it. and then GOF came and Ralph Fiennes got casted. the cast just kept getting better everytime and you can tell that by every movie, some great Brit actor will get casted.

and now i wanna watch POA.
