HP Discussion Thread #7: Which character deserves more attention in the Harry Potter books?

Welcome to the HP Discussion Thread #7

Each week, we'll have different questions pertaining to different storylines and characters in all HP books and this thread is all about discussing our opinions on these. Please note the following reminders for this thread:

1. No bashing of characters & actors.
2. Keep criticism constructive (saying this XXX character is stupid is not constructive).
3. Please be on-topic at all times.
4. Please be respectful of everyone's opinions since we won't agree all the time.

Please also note that we can base our discussions on what we truly feel or quote various interviews we've seen or heard or parts from the book to justify our answers.

So let's start! Next question is: "Which character deserves more attention in the “Harry Potter” books?"

Was Barty Crouch Jr. as Mad-Eye Moody the best Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher?
You wake up and realize you're at the Hogwarts entrance hall. Where is the first place you would visit?

Which character is your least favorite and why: Rita Skeeter or Dolores Umbridge?
Who was the best DADA professor?
Would Harry have succeeded at the tasks he faced in The Goblet of Fire without outside assistance?
Sirius Black is imprisoned for 12 years in Azkaban, and Pettigrew is imprisoned for the same amount of time in the body of a rat. Which character was more truly the prisoner?
Do you think Harry would have still succeeded against the obstacles without Ron and Hermione?
If you were to drink a Polyjuice Potion, which person would you change into?

Do you think Harry would have still succeeded against the obstacles without Ron and Hermione?
What do you think would your Patronus be and why?
Who would you go to the Yule Ball with?
What untold story in the HP world would you want tackled on Pottermore?
If you could save any dead character from dying, who will it be and why?
Do you think the spouses of muggle siblings are allowed to be told before they marry muggle-born witch or wizard's sibling or did Petunia break a wizarding law?
Should magic be contained within the wizarding community or should muggles be exposed to it?
Do you think wealthy pure-blood parents, such as the Blacks, Lestranges, Malfoys, Potters, etc., took an active role in raising their children or did they let nannies and/or house-elves do all the work?

Do you think the professors all had timeturners or were all lessons shared with another house even though it wasn't always mentioned?

So what do you think, why are they popular?

I actually didn't hear about the HP books until a friend of mine recommended them to me. The first movie was already out when I started to read them.

Personally I think they are popular because of the element of magic and fantasy. It's a make-believe world that a lot of people want to get lost in. Initially I was skeptical to read because I thought HP was a children's book but then when I started to read them, I just couldn't stop. The world and characters are all very interesting and I like how Jo started off with Harry's parents dying because that really was the catalyst for everything that happened in these books.

That's also a good reason. Both LotR and HP were the only fantasy books out that time that were made into movies and has become really successful. There's also Star Wars and Star Trek but they're not based on books.

I also think it's the whole make believe world of magic that made people curious. Honestly, when the HP books came out, I wasn't interested because they were advertised as a children's book but then a friend of mine recommended it to me and the rest is history.

Indeed. And with magic involved, why not right? It was so fun imagining what a wizarding school like Hogwarts was like.

Ah I also have an ex where we both have a mutual break-up but we still aren't friends on social media. He lives in the U.S. now with his wife (American) so we don't see each other that often. This was the one I told you about when we broke up, he courted my friend's sister. Awkward all around.
