HP Discussion Thread #3: They're out of Hogwarts, what do the characters do with their lives now?

Welcome to the HP Discussion Thread #3

Each week, we'll have different questions pertaining to different storylines and characters in all HP books and this thread is all about discussing our opinions on these. Please note the following reminders for this thread:

1. No bashing of characters & actors.
2. Keep criticism constructive (saying this XXX character is stupid is not constructive).
3. Please be on-topic at all times.
4. Please be respectful of everyone's opinions since we won't agree all the time.

Please also note that we can base our discussions on what we truly feel or quote various interviews we've seen or heard or parts from the book to justify our answers.

So let's start! Next question is:
"They're out of Hogwarts, what do the characters do with their lives now?"
"Who would you cast in a Marauders movie?
"Why did Dumbledore trust Severus Snape?"
Why do you think Harry was sorted into Gryffindor?
If you were a Hogwarts student, which class do you think you'll excel in?
If you have a Resurrection Stone, which HP character would you resurrect and why?
Which Hogwarts Professor is your favorite and why
What do the books want to tell us about the importance of friendship and family?
Apart from Harry, who do you think got the best character development?
How much different would Harry be growing up with his parents instead of the Dursleys?
Do you think the Dursleys are muggle versions of the Malfoys?
Had your view of the Dursleys changed across all the books?"
In the second task at Goblet of Fire, should Harry save Hermione instead of Ron?
Do you think Harry would have still succeeded against the obstacles without Ron and Hermione?
What do you think would your Patronus be and why?
Who would you go to the Yule Ball with?
What untold story in the HP world would you want tackled on Pottermore?
If you could save any dead character from dying, who will it be and why?
Do you think the spouses of muggle siblings are allowed to be told before they marry muggle-born witch or wizard's sibling or did Petunia break a wizarding law?
Should magic be contained within the wizarding community or should muggles be exposed to it?
Do you think wealthy pure-blood parents, such as the Blacks, Lestranges, Malfoys, Potters, etc., took an active role in raising their children or did they let nannies and/or house-elves do all the work?
Should house-elves be slaves?
Do you think the professors all had timeturners or were all lessons shared with another house even though it wasn't always mentioned?
Do you think Hogwarts houses were ruthless in competitions or was it all fun and games?
Was Dumbledore really trying to make Harry, or was he playing/using him all along?
Who helps Harry more on his quest: Ron or Hermione?
Do you think Amortentia is dangerous?
Should we pity Voldemort or hate him?
Is Severus Snape really a hero?
Who is the better supporting character: Luna Lovegood or Neville Longbottom?
Should Peter Pettigrew have been sorted in Gryffindor?

*This thread is based on the book "Harry Potter Should Have Died"

Thanks for the new thread

"Why did Dumbledore trust Severus Snape?"

I think because he recognised that Severus truly had loved Lily. And Albus believed Love was one of the greatest powers. (THE greatest power?) So he trusted that Severus' love for Lily would trump his hate for James/Harry.

Not all of it, but I can't articulate more right now

Wow. I've got nothing more to add to that, Paula. You basically said what I want to say about about our discussion.

I guess it was good that the reveal about this wasn't until DH. We even thought Snape was against Dumbledore in HBP because he killed him. I also think that both of them have so much respect for each other that they will trust each other no matter what. Dumbledore knows Snape way back when he was still a student in Hogwarts (and vice-versa when DD was also headmaster that time) so they really know each other a long time and the trust has been established ever since.

I also think Dumbledore probably noticed Snape's affections for Lily (he's a very observant person). I don't think Snape told anyone about his attraction to Lily and kept it to himself but Dumbledore knows.

Looks like it's just the two of us here.

You can randomly answer some of the questions in the OP so we can get some discussion going in, I'd like that.

Okay, just picked one that spoke to me
I'm sure you will have discussed this already though, so if you want to come up with new questions/topics that's really okay with me

Which Hogwarts Professor is your favorite and why?
I don't suppose I'm allowed to say there are two, but I'm going to say that anyway

I'm a big fan of McGonagall, in the books, but even more so because of Maggie Smith in the movies. Her giggle and "I've always wanted to use that spell." make me laugh every time again. She's really this strict teacher who clearly has heart for her students.

And then there was Lupin. Who came up with fun things for the students to do, but also clearly loved his job. Not just for Harry, it seemed, but for all the kids and the compassion he showed.

I almost forgot about Hagrid Though he wasn't that good a teacher, was he?

I think I also said that I liked McGonagall. Not only is she an Animagus, but she's the kind of teacher that you'd listen to just cause she commands a presence.

I also like Hagrid, I think monsters/creatures are tough to teach and it takes an extra special teacher to do that.

Lupin is also a good teacher but my only concern is he turns into a wolf which really affects his availability and I don't like it when I have different teachers for the same class.

I wasn't a fan of Lupin that much

McGonagall is a near real life prof in college...logical, fair, helpful, enforces the rules

I do like Lupin as a teacher. If only he wasn't a werewolf cause he can become destructive when there's a full moon.

McGonagall is awesome, one of my favourite characters. And her backstory is heartbreaking.

I loved Lupin in the books, lycanthropy and all, and I was so happy when he was awarded the Order of Merlin after his death. In the movies though, he was disappointing, almost as much as angry Dumbledore.

Very well deserved. He's a great teacher but can be MIA when there's a full moon.

I was only thinking about his teaching skills. But you are right Lindsay, the fact that he can't teach all the time makes him unreliable

Well then, too bad, I'll just have to go with McGonagall
