Release Date: 21 November 2008

Here's a great audio interview with director David Yates talking about HBP

Voices From Krypton

Quote:
In a new interview recorded around the time of the release of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Voices from Krypton has a new audio interview with director David Yates who talks details and more about the upcoming sixth Harry Potter film. Noting that screenwriter Steven Kloves has turned in a “terrific and fun” draft that will lend to a very “character-driven” film, David Yates discusses things like character relationships as well as the final “wonderful” sequence at the end of the film. In particular, Mr. Yates specifically mentions the “epic” cave scene and the army of the dead sequence that will take place in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, as well as the relationship between mentor Albus Dumbledore and student Harry Potter.

In this riveting interview (runs approx 6:48) HBP director David Yates says the film will swing between drama and moments of horror to those of delicate character relationship moments. He also mentions the humor in the film, and the “unrequited feelings” between Harry and Ginny that will be incorporated, as well as the deeping and developing relationship between Ron and Hermione which he describes as “delightful and funny and tender and true.”

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is currently in production and will be released in theaters November 21, 2008.

More new quotes from Dan today about HBP.

Quote:
As the actor who embodies Harry Potter’s every move, Daniel Radcliffe certainly knows from heroism. There’s the type of courage needed to battle a basilisk, for instance, or the bravery required to face down several dementors. But you can keep your dragon rides and your sorcerers’ duels, insisted Radcliffe, who told MTV News that the scene from the upcoming movie, “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” he’s most looking forward to filming is the one in which Harry’s heroism manifests itself in the simple act of telling a friend it’s all going to be ok.

“I’m really looking forward to filming the cave and all the stuff in there with the lake and the Inferi,” Radcliffe enthused. “Me and [Michael] Gambon in a row boat for a few days. It’s gonna be amazing.”

The climax of “Half-Blood Prince,” the cave scene centers on Harry and Dumbledore as they search for one of Voldemort’s horcruxes, believed to be magically concealed deep within a cliff young Tom Riddle stole away to while at an orphanage. The pair find the horcrux, of course, but not before passing the Dark Lord’s many booby traps - the most terrifying of which is a potion designed to make the drinker relive his very worst memories. It’s here that Harry is able to save Dumbledore, who has tasted the brew and fallen into a screaming hysteria.

Which — as readers of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” could tell you — was all for naught, since the locket horcrux was already removed from the basin by Regalus Black and the house elf Kreacher. But now that we know they got there (and out), how will Radcliffe and Gambon? Will the expansive cave with the vast underground lake be entirely digital?

Not according to Radcliffe.

“I thought it was all gonna be largely visual effects, but they have built the cave,” he revealed, confirming that the shoot will be all practical. “So it’s gonna be very interesting to film.”

As much as I like Jim Broadbent, he's not who I pictured as Slughorn. He's too tall for it. Isn't Slughorn supposed to be short and fat?

Oh well, I'll keep an open mind because he is a good actor.

I was originally thinking that Bob Hoskins would be the perfect Slughorn, but Jim Broadbent is brillant, so I know he'll be great. I still hope they can find something for Hoskins though.

Still no word on Lavender and Narcissa.

Whew, ok so Michael Gambon is gonna be in it again, I didnt know for sure when I saw that at the top, but I'm guessing that those are all who have officially been signed for this one right?

Yes, but the entire main cast is returning. That's just the IMDB cast list that I just copied and pasted here.

I'll update it with everyone eventually.

Haha, ok. I wonder how long it'll be before they decide on Narcissa and Lavender?

Our good friend Jack has updated with new info.

Quote:
9/27/07:
Q: Will the scene where hermione attacks ron with the birds be in the movie? oh and also there have been talks in a lot of interviews that emma will kiss rupert in this movie. is that true? will hermione and ron kiss in this movie instead of waiting for deathly hallows?

A: Yes, I am pretty sure the scene where Hermione attacks Ron with the birds will be in the movie. It was definately in the second draft of the screenplay so fingers crossed it was kept!

Q: I was wondering if your uncle would't mind telling us who is playing Narcissa Malfoy, i dying yo know. Also did they cast someone as Fenir Greyback? Will we see Draco and Pansy in the scene on the train?

A: My uncle won't say I'm afraid! The role has been cast that's all he will say! He's keeping even quieter on Greyback so that normally means he will be in the movie!

Q: We sort of know Rupert/Ron's role in HBP, but what does Kloves have planned for Hermione? She spends most of the book trying to discredit the HBP or being upset over Ron/Lavender. I'd imagine that they won't spend much time on the HBP, so what will Hermione do the whole film?
Do you know if they are going to beef up the mudblood storyline? In light of DH, it's going to be very important. They've sort of skimmed over the discrimination or completely cut it in the past. Are they going to prepare at all for this in HBP?

A: To be honest I really do not know much about the whole 'mudblood' storyline for the film! I can tell you though that the HBP is a massive part of the film so what you read in the book you will essentially see on the screen. The whole Ron/Hermione development is going to be 'fantastic' according to my uncle! I'm really excited about that!

Q: I don't knw if your uncle would know aything about the DVD's but ,for the last couple in paticulary, it seems that the WB has been holding back some deleted scenes that didn't make it onto the dvd. I was just wondering if they are holding somethings back for extended versions down the line?

A: You can expect something a little 'extra' in the future!

Q: Do you know if the scene where Draco beats Harry up on the train in the HBP script?
I know I asked this a while back, but is the house elf fight between Dobby and Kreacher in there? Probably not.
Have you heard anything about the casting of Narcissa?

A: I can confirm it was in the second draft of the script so let's hope it's kept in! Regarding the Dobby/Kreacher fight I really do not know! I know a few things that were in the second draft but the Dobby/Kreacher fight I wasn't told about! That doesn't mean it definately won't be in though! It may still be!

Q: This is a Deathly Hallows question...Has there been any casting talked about for DH yet?
There is a story on this site saying that Billy Connolly has been lined up for Zeno Lovegood. I haven't seen this on any other HP sites. Is that true?

A: Don't believe anything you hear about Deathly Hallows casting. WB are only focussed on HBP at the current moment in time! It was rumoured for AGES that Bob Hoskins had the role of Slughorn (even my uncle thought he was being offered the role) but now we know that Jim Broadbent will be playing him! So once again do not believe ANYTHING you hear about Deathly Hallows!

aha. most enlightening baileycat. i'm glad the bird scene is in - it was one of my favourites in the book. i think billy connolly would make a brilliant zeno lovegood (but we're not talking about that). Tilda Swinton might make a good narcissa...
