My thoughts on these chapters:

The beginning of Harry's lessons with Dumbledore. This was one of my favorite elements of book 6. It was definetly time I think for Dumbledore to work with Harry one on one and I wasn't disappointed. Voldemort sure was a little jerk as a kid, wasn't he?

Stan Shunpike, a Death Eater? I was with Harry on his not believing that one. I did enjoy his mention a lot.

Poor Hagrid, nobody wants to take his class. I was glad the trio finally went and apologized to him and he forgave them. Hagrid's the best.

I really liked Harry's angry reaction to finding out Mundungus was taking and selling off all Sirius' things.

Poor Katie Bell being the unlucky one to get that cursed package. That was an intense scene with her screaming and collapsing and none of them knowing what to do. Lucky she had gloves on anyway.

I'm glad Dumbledore is working more closely with Harry but I wish there was more to their lessons. Perhaps I'll feel differently when I finish the book.

I felt bad for Hagrid. he's a nice guy but the class stinks unless you're into that sort of thing. I thought it very nice of them to apologize.

Mundungus bicking that stuff disgusted me. How low can he possibly go?

Katie Bell... very tragic but also such a mystery. I wonder if it gets solved.

This book just keeps getting better.

Highlights for me include...

The trip to Hogesmeade and Harry going up against Mundungus, that was so rude of him to steal things of Sirius'.

The backstory on Voldemort and poor Merope, I seriously felt so bad for the girl. From the moment I heard "Tom" outside I knew it was going to be some form of Tom Riddle and then I was blown away to see that Merope was actually Voldie's mother-to-be. Great stuff that part.

The Quidditch tryouts and Hermione's obvious crush on Ron. The stuff with McLadden, I'm sure that's going to come back to bite him in the butt soon.

Is it just me or is Harry a bit jealous of all the male attention that Ginny is getting? Maybe I'm overlooking it. He seems to want to have her around more than he ever did before.

I'm still so confused over H/Hr vs R/Hr on who it's going to be because there are times that she seems obviously smitten with the both of them and then you've got Ron somewhat lusting over Lavender Brown. I want to fast forward just to know who it is and then come back, lol.

Only thing I'm not loving thus far is the lack of Neville and Luna, at least for up to Chapter 13. I loved their train scene and just wanted to see them hanging out some more. I adore Luna so more of her is always appreciated JK.

The House of Gaunt
wow. kinda creepy. it's weird that a family like that could be related to Slytherin. i really liked learning about Voldemort's family. it's good to know the enemy. and i like that Dumbledore has started to share these things with Harry. it's all information that will be useful to him. but i wonder what it has to do with the prophecy??

Hermione's Helping Hand
i love that the chapter is named this. obviously JK wanted to highlight this event. and i'm very happy that Ron is still on the team!

i was SO surprised about Stanly Shunpike. i wonder if it's true. if so, i guess it shows that even the people you think least likey to do dark magic, can

Silver and Opals
wow, poor Katie! that sounds aweful. i hope she's alright. and when Harry told McGonagall about his thoughts on Draco, i found it odd and suspicious that Draco has skipped out on his last two transfiguration assignments. does he think he's too good for them, or is there another reason??

and i loved when Harry got mad at Mudungus about Sirius's goblet. there's a part of me that enjoys angry Harry, but it's better that he's controling himself more now.

The Secret Riddle
why was this chapter called the secret riddle?? but anyway, it thought it was very interesting to see Voldy as a child. i'm not sure how i feel about the way he was acting, but it's clear that it doesn't mean anything good.
i like that Dumbledore is continuing to show Harry bits about Tom. i wonder if all of their "lessons" wil lbe like that.

Once again, I have found myself wondering if next book J.K will have Ginny with Harry and Ron with Hermonie from what she has written so far in this book. Harry's thoughts on how Ginny has been spending more time with others as of late have kept me wondering. I wouldn't be too upset with it if it ever happend. They'd be cute together. (He'd be ending up with a red-head just like his father )

i don't believe it either

omg, Ogden's story is one of the best things I've read so far! I'm so excited about knowing where voldemort came from, I can't wait to know more about his story

i felt bad for hagrid too, but i also felt bad for the trio. it's very hard to feel you've disappointed a friend.

and what about parvati and lavender? it's been difficult to me to get used to the new romantic tone of the story, there's love everywhere in this book suddenly. One of the things I liked most about the HP story is that there's never been much love stories, actually the only love story i can think of is Lily-James. I like that the characters weren't soppy, and the relationships weren't soppy (james-lily, ginny-dean, mr-mrs weasley, harry-cho, etc) , rowling's couples argue a lot and suddenly there is hair-stroking (draco-pansy) and lying on laps and giggles and looks and stuff... but i think i'm getting used to it now. It's just weird for me to see Rowling writing romance.

I've always thought that Ron likes Hermione, Hermione likes Harry and Harry likes nobody. well, he liked Cho but now he likes nobody.

My exact thoughts

I don't know why I had the impression Tom Riddle was a boy similar to Harry, treated badly...but good in the insides, or so I thought from reading book two. Now I realise that's all a lie. I was disgusted at his conversation with Dumbledore! Maybe because whoever raises his voice at Dumbledore I'm like.."HEY! MARK YOUR WORDS! It's dumbledore you're speaking to!" but I still think he was too rude.

I think Rowling warned us when she talked about Fleur & Bill's wedding. What Molly said, saying that now that they're at war everyone feels they have to express their feelings, doing it quickly even if in a normal situation they wouldn't do it.

I think, too, it's all because of the fact that they're grown up. When you're 14 you are surely interested in romance, etc, but when you're 16 it's when the romance it's supposed to start.

I don't take it all too seriously, but I have the best times, and I laugh a lot with them giggling, and hiding faces, being jealous and such

I really think Harry is developing this weird thing for Ginny. And I think she's made some kind of potion...well, I used to think so now I'm starting to think she hasn't done any potion she has just grown up and Harry is noticing

all the Dumbledore lessons leave me like this--> I'm loving the voldemort life story

I had the same impression. Both orphans, with magical powers, and being the only wizards in a muggle environment. But as you said, they are different in 1 thing: Harry is a good person, Tom is evil.

aaaaahhhhh I didn't pay enough attention to Molly's lines, you are totally right , it all makes more sense now

Could someone please explain the ending of Chapter 13, The Secret Riddle to me, in reference to this part in particular:

Quote:
'The ring's gone,' said Harry, looking around. 'But I thought you might have the mouth-organ or something'
Dumbledore beamed at him, peering over the top of his half-moon spectacles.
'Very astute, Harry, but the mouth-organ was only ever a mouth-organ.'
And on that enigmatic note he waved to Harry, who understoof himself to be dismissed.
- p. 260

What does Dumbledore mean by 'the mouth-organ was only ever a mouth-organ'?
