This year and last year I've been doing a thing where I read one chapter a day. You could try that, then days when you can do more you do more, and days you can't you just do one, but either way you're moving forward

 Must have picked up a few spoilers along the way I imagine... I'd say if you can manage to read the books first go for it, or at least alternate, like b1, s1, b2, s2, b3, s3, b4/5, s4, s5... |

I've started reading the first book but real life keeps getting in the way so I haven't finished it yet. It's different though. In the books, we get to see a POV of a certain character then it goes on to the next POV. On the show, it isn't that way and all the stories blend well together. It's well done.
