i really liked her character from the start too. i kind of identified with her too from the beginning. i read the first book and finished it the morning i saw the movie which was the day after thanksgiving i believe. it was still all packed in the theatre as well. i think all girls who read the book can identify with her, espacially if you have any guy friends.

I don't think girls can identify with her necessarily. Most of my friends don't; they mostly have the tendency to say "She was so annoying...she gets better with each book, though." Whereas, I...I AM Hermione...it's really weird.

i guess it depends on the girl. i immediately identified with her. she wants to be accepted but doesn't really know how to go about it and is scared people are going to reject her but she is also so strong. she doesn't let harry and ron boss her around, she tells him what she thinks they should do and lets him deal with it. she's awesome.

what I want is a copy of Emma's Essay on Hermione. I mean Next to JK she's the one who would know Hermione the best, so it would be really interesting to read her insight on the character.
I think she said once that Hermione was really afraid of failing at something. She wants to prove herself to the wizarding world because she's muggle born, so she hides herself behind these wall of books because she just might be vulnerable...it's her security blanket I suppose. __________________

i always thought that about hermione as well. she was afraid of being in this new world and just falling on her butt so she used books to get the most knowledge so she wouldn't fail. she still has that fear now, now but its more serious with failing harry i think in the fight against voldemort and not being able to use the information she knows against voldemort and win the fight.
*takes her "i'm a psychology major" hat off* kathy i really want to see her essay on hermione too, i think it would be really intriguing. i hope that when the books are all over that they someday show that emma and dan wrote about their characters at the time of the third movie. |
