I do remember back then some fans were complaining that WB was milking the money by doing 2 movies. Now that I think about it, why wouldn't they? HP is a huge franchise and these were going to be the last movies so they better make the fans happy.

Honestly, Ootp should've been split in 2 movies as well. It was the biggest book in HP books, yet it gets the shortest movie

But every other movies do the same thing, so I don't see where they were bitching about? Only thing that it made sense w/ this film only while other wasn't need..

^ And then I remember the very last movie for the Twilight Saga was also split into two because the movies did have a huge fanbase as well.

Some of my casual friends (and by casual I mean they didn't read the books) thought OotP was their least favorite. They felt like there was something missing from the movie in spite of Sirius' death on that one.

Sure..Ootp many events has occurred within its pages so one movie was not enough and ironically it was the shortest.

May be because it shows the aftermath of Voldemort's rising. You know, kinda mess. The Ministry refuses to believe and accuses Harry of being a fraud, on the other hand The secret society led by DD to oppose both the Ministry and Voldemort, Umbridge and the dominance of the Ministry over Hogwarts, Harry's attitude lol I remember once Jo said that Ootp supposed to be a bit shorter, Here is the Quote

^ Yeah it's fairly noticeable if you have the book, OotP is the thickest.

That makes sense as opposed to the other books where Harry's mostly concentrated at Hogwarts.

Exactly. Harry wasn't free to go to other magical places except few but in Ootp, we saw lots of places and characters at one book. But as Jo said if you wanna shorten it a bit you won't find which part to cut.
