Well I guess we need a new discussion topic

Do you guys agree with Hermione that house elves should be free? Or do you think it is cruel to free them?

Personally I have always agreed with Hermione on this. I think they should get a normal wage and that there should be laws about how they can be treated. It seems to me that wizards take advantage of them.

Do you guys think that Hermione will ever get any change to happen for the elves?

i'm not sure how successful Hermione will be, but i do think her heart is in the right place. I can't understand how a house elf would want to be mistreated. i realize that most of them aren't abused, but they aren't treated fairly and equally either. afterall, goblins are creatures too, and they have a lot more respect than houselves.

Hey Sam yeah I don't get why the house elves are so loyal to families that treat them so badly. I wonder how many other house elves the Malfoy family had.

Has Draco every seen Dobby at school? Do you think he would recognize him? How would he treat him?

i'm sure the Malfoys did have other house elves. they're very rich and they live in a mansion, so i'm sure they keep the house elves busy.

hmm, i'd never thought about Draco seeing Dobby at school. i doubt he's seen him yet, but i think it would be a really cool scene if he did.

I'm so bad. It's like I have thread ADD.

I agree with Hermione in what she's trying to do with the house elves. They are slaves because like Hermione said, they don't get paid. But, it's almost a lost cause. With the exception of Dobby, they like being treated the way they are. And most wizards (I guess most pureblood families such as the Weasleys) think that the house elves are where they should be. It seems like their reason for existing is to serve other people. And I'm sure traditional, old fashioned wizarding families wouldn't want to start paying them because it goes against what they're used to.

Maybe if Dumbledore stepped in to help Hermione, she could make a bigger impact with her cause.

I think that it'd be very difficult for Hermione to free the house elves. It is obvious that they like their work, (well minus Dobby) However I do think that they need rights for how they are treated. I think Dobby was poorly treated and that the house elves don't deserve disrespect. But they live to serve. Taking that away from them is kind of cruel.

As far as Dobby and Draco, I doubt Draco would recognize Dobby it seems as though most the house elves look similar. Draco isn't one that would really care to learn Dobby's name I'm sure, or any of their other houselves.

Spike_luver welcome to the thread! The more the merrier! I think that Draco might recognize Dobby since he seemed to be his father's personal house elf.

As for the House Elves. I hope that they at least put laws into place about how long you can make your house elf work and put rules in place to ensure their safety and that they aren't abused.

I think that maybe hoose elves might actually have stronger magic than wizards do. They cam get around the wards etc on Hogwarts by apparating(or whatever house elves call it). Is it possible that wizards were scared of the house elves' power, and somehow put some kind of 'curse' or something on them so that they only want to serve wizards and not fight them? And maybe Dobby is an exception. Perhaps there is a 'curse' on house elves that keeps them subservient to wizards.

I fell sorry for the house elves, I would join S.P.E.W, I think they should be given a wage. Or if they are not willing to accept that, they should have decent meals, holidays, nice "uniforms" and basic comforts like a bed etc. (which I'm sure the ones at Hogwarts get).
