The epilogue was so cute! But a bit confusing. Someone, please correct me, but is it like this?

The Potter family (in descending age order): Harry, Ginny, James, Albus Severus (!!!!), Lily
The Weasley family: Ron, Hermione, Rose, Hugo

JK Rowling having Harry name his kids after his parents and Dumbledore is so... expected, but cute. And Albus Severus... ok, it sounds weird to me. But it's something you know Harry would've done, he's very predictable like that. And I love how we get to know what happens to them 19 years later, it's the cycle of life going on and another generation of kids going on to Hogwarts. It gives the Harry Potter books a sense of timelessness... not to mention it's very cute.

You know what? All really is well, in the end, in the Muggle/wizard universe - just as it should be. And the jacket of my book, the last sentence of the blurb? Couldn't have put it better myself:

Quote:
The spellbinding, richly woven narrative, which plunges, twists and turns at a breathtaking pace, confirms the author as a mistress of storytelling, whose books will be read, reread and read again.

I think that this was the only part of the book which I felt really disappointed with. The thing was it WAS cutesy and it just didn't feel right. In fact, I saw this epilogue online a few days ago and dismissed it straight away as fanfic. I really didn't believe its veracity. I don't think it was needed - I would have preferred the book to end at the previous chapter. TBH I was expecting a run-down on what various different characters were upto - jobs and which unlikely couples ended up together and the like. I mean, it was made pretty obvious on the future of Harry/Ginny Ron/Hermione anyway, I don't feel like we needed any confirmation on that front. Although I liked the 'Albus Severus' touch - two great Hogwarts headmasters.

Another quick question: is there a significance to the names that Ron and Hermione named their kids? Rose and Hugo I think...?

ETA: Just got Rose and Hugo. Same first letters as Ron and Hermione.

Well, I found it rather unnecessary as well, but since JK Rowling did such a great job with the previous chapters I think it's fine to let her indulge in a little bit of sentimentality. Or at least that's what I think anyway... and it is cute. Unncessary, but cute.

I don't know if there's any particular significance - I know the Weasley family all have names with significance, but Rose and Hugo don't ring a bell, you know?

I loved the fact they all remained friends though. And that Neville was a proffessor.

Yeah, and it had to be Herbology he really was meant to do that, him throwing the Mandrakes during the siege was quite funny and very Neville.

If Ron was naming kids, yeah I'd understand but Hermione as well?? I would've expected her to name hers after some great Ancient Runes philosopher or the like! I was thinking, maybe I missed a great WotM at JK's site. But if not? I ust find it a little strange I suppose.

And is Percy just another dad going on about broom regulations?

What do you mean by that? And what is a WotM?

I assume the broom regulations person was Percy, but as to whether he had a family or not... I don't think JK Rowling mentioned it. Did she?

Sorry, I'l clarify: I meant I could understand Ron not choosing significant names for his kids - I mean, he let his sister name his owl Pigwidgeon, right? But since he's under Hermione's influence - whose parents themselves named her after a Shakespeare character - I expect her at least to have chosen some significant names.

And WotM was just Wizard/Witch os the Month at JK's site.

She mentioned Percy going on about broom regulations. I was just wondering if you thought it was him lecturing a possible family, or because he was at Kings Cross for some official Hogwarts reason. If he's working there now? Or on behalf of the ministry?

I have a feeling that Rose and Hugo will be significant in the way that all the Weasleys have names with meaning, just that we haven't researched it and so we don't know

I assume it's him working at the (now good) Ministry, and talking to some of his family members about it - similar to the way he would bore everyone to tears about cauldron thickness.

While the Prologue was quite cutesy, and it didn't really seem to fit, JK needed to include it, to sort of finish off things I think. Because otherwise someone will start writing books titled something like "Voldemort lives again!" And we all don't want that now do we...

She sort of just needed to say, in a diffinative way that the series is over, otherwise people would start to wonder if Voldemort was actually still alive or not.

That's what I think anyway...

Okay.... I think it is a stupid question, but how old are the students when they finish school? Around 18 or 19? Cause James said he meet Teddy Lupin and as I count he is around that age.... and he is still at school?

What i find odd is that we never find out what their jobs are?!!! What happenend to Luna and other characters? The epilogue was nice but felt unfinished in a way too.

Exactly. Some mention would've been nice. Some little hint that Harry (and Ron - I can't imagine him employed in a job without Harry - those two are inseparable) became an Auror, or Hermione went on to do great things. If the Quibbler went back to the Snorkacks or became more of a hard hitting rival to the Prophet. Did Luna and Neville marry people and have children, although looks doubtful if they're not at the Station. And even who even Draco married, I'm betting it's not Pansy Parkinson now... So many things.... I found it hard to believe that was the ending she'd written so many years ago and kept hidden for so long.

It was kind of cutsey but after i read the whole book through, i saw the endng on line a few days ago, i was satisfied with it, after all that darkness and death cutsey was allowed in my book. I loved that he named his kids after his parents and then also two people that mattered a lot to him.

And little Albus was just so really cute wanting not to be in slytherin but then harry was like one of the bravest people he knows was from that house. I loved Lily acting like Ginny was when she said she wanted to go but couldn't in 1st year. And i loved the cute teasing between james and albus!

I just really liked it in the end, and i did want to know what they're jobs were too, lol.
