IKR? But it will help protect her parents. I vaguely remember from JKR's interview that she said Hermione was able to bring back her parent's memories so at least it was only temporary.

Yes Hermione did bring back her parents' memories when she came back.

They got their memories back. What Hermione did was made them forget (for a while) that they have a daughter. So when they got their memories back it's like nothing happened.
