Harry only used it because he saw the spell on his Potion book (technically Snape's book) but used it even though he didn't know what the spell was.

Nope, in the book it was written that the spell was for enemies but Snape's notes didn't say what it was.

Whoops, sorry I meant movie not book. In the book, I think we already knew what the spell meant and Harry didn't.

That was near the end of the movie, when Voldemort came to Hogwarts looking for Harry. It's during their battle.
