I always confuse that part and the Patronus sent on PoA where Harry thought it was his father sending the Patronus (but it was just him).

Yes he did. Learning how to conjure a Patronus is under the DADA class, the one with Remus Lupin in the 3rd book/POA.

Harry was actually pretty good in school. He's not bookish but in application, he's good (like with spells & flying).
