Deathly Hallows book discussion

Now that we've got a release date of July 21st I think it's appropriate to start this thread for the seventh and final book in the series. *sniff*

Please feel free to post your questions, theories, speculations as well as any Deathly Hallows news reports. However, once we get closer to the release date we will ask that spoiler tags be used.

Thanks and have fun.

This is a great idea for a thread

Of course what most people are theorising about at the moment is whether or not Jo signed a statue at the Balmoral Hotel when she finished the book, lol.

Back to the book, here's a question or two.

Do you think Jo will give us any clues like she did with OOTP and HBP?

Do you think we will get any chapter titles or will she be so worried people will work things out we won't get any extra information at all this time?

I can confirm that she did. Here in Scotland anything related to JKR/Harry Potter is especially big news, as she's obviously a bit of a national hero, and today on the front page of one of the national tabloids there is an actual picture of the statue with the signature on it. You can read part of it if you really squint and it is definetly JKR's writing.

The article also mentioned that The Elephant House (the cafe where she wrote the first book and part of the last) is still in existence and is in fairly close proximity to Edinburgh Castle. Now I have been in Edinburgh (and fairly close to the castle) on several occasions for sporting events, so I'm wondering if I've perhaps passed the cafe without even realising. That's definetly an interesting thought.

My parents on their trip to Scotland last year visited that Castle and walked by the cafe during a tour. Took pictures for me and everything. So jealous.

I can see her being even more guarded with this one because everything is a give-away now in terms of plot and character motivations. If anything, she'll be as cheeky as ever and answer any questions with another question.

Maybe a chapter title. But it would have to be an extermely obsecure one that would come with loads of speculation and multiple possibilities.

Who do you predict the first death will be?

I can't wait for the book, too bad the release date wasn't 07/07/07 like we all thought. it was gonna be.

I suspect they avoided that date because it's the anniversary of the London bombings a couple summers ago.

Good reason to not release it then.

I can't wait for the book. Any idea on the length? It's gonna have to be a long one, there are so many unanswered things.

I don't think she'll give us a lot more than she already has. She doesn't want people to figure it out, and personally I would rather read and be surprised than to figure it out before hand. But I have often dreamed that I would get an email from Jo saying that my theory is right and could I please remove my post and not tell anyone! but off of that.

Who do yo think the fist death will be?

hmm that is tough. I am thinking that it won't be on the wedding day. I feel like that will be the last good day for everyone before all the madness ensues. I think that the first to die will be ... someone of significance, but not a main character, maybe Mundungs, Cornelius Fudge or Dobby. It is harder than I thought to pick. I don't want a lot of people to die, but can't help thinking that they will.

We should start a poll to see who everyone think will die, and mark next to each name if they are voted for twice.

Don't know if any of you feel the same, but I'm one of those finding it difficult to believe that Snape is really bad even after what he did in book 6. And here's my theory (sorry if it's arleady been discussed on some other thread) of why-

So in the first book, when we first meet Snape in the classroom he tells them about all the things he can teach them to do, including Stopper Death. So maybe the liquid from the basin that Dumbledore drank was just that- Stopper Death. And Dumbledore ordered Snape to put it there and then kill him in front of the Death Eaters so it really looked like he was on there side.
What do you think? The only hitch is that it would mean Dumbledore is still alive and I'm pretty sure he's not.

^That's a good theory but I'm not sure if it could work sadly

I'm guessing the deaths will be snape,Harry, Voldermort, Draco or Hagrid. Probably Voldermort and I daresay Harry...preferably Snape there..I still think he's evil..but we'll see.

I heard it's 600+ pages...because it's about 35 bucks,

I'd doubt that page count since Jo's not done editing yet so it won't be at the printers for a fair bit.

I'm one of those who believe Snape's a scapegoat. And I'll be devestated if my instinct turns out to be false.

I've had this strange thought that Neville will be the biggest sacrificer in the end that helps Harry defeat Voldemort. Another character who's death I would morn greatly. But wouldn't it be something if it turns out that once Voldie's gone, the whole chosen one story shifts to make Neville the ultimate martyr. Harry then can go on living a normal life while eveyone in the wizarding world worships the memory of heroic Neville instead.

I have a feeling Hagrid will be one of the deaths... as much as that really depresses me. Of course Voldemort as well. Not sure who else.

Any other theories of why Snape is good or bad? And who do you think got the reprieve?

Snape could've been the one who got the reprieve..although I'd rather it be Harry

Oh yeah! I was gonna say...I think Neville could be one of the deaths. I have this theory he and Harry were connected through the prophecy and I see him being in the final battle..I dunno why aside from that..it's just an odd feeling. I think he'll help Harry.

I also have the gut feeling that Neville will die. I really hope he doesn't. Hagrid i could see dying which i wouldn't mind that much.

Snape........i have absolutly no idea what the deal with this guy is

I'm looking forward to finding out what will happen with Malfoy though.
