I don't know if this is old news, but OotP is due for a July '07 release in the states. While HBP is supposed to start filming in '07 for a '08 release. I think they want to finish the films, as the actors are all getting older and the like.

Is there any speculation as to when the last book is coming out? And if it is, indeed, the last book?

As far as everyone knows, Book seven is the last book. But, I have heard nothing about a release date. I would think late in the year or early next year.

I read online that the book will be coming out on July 7th, 2007 (7/07/07) - the 7th book! I'm not sure of the accuracy on that, but I have heard it a couple of different times. I guess we'll see.

I think these are just rumours. As long as we don't have an official release date (and we don't, as far as I know) I won't believe anything I hear. Even though 2007/7/7 makes sense for book 7

Some news:

From Wizardnews

Quote:
Harry Potter nominated for three MTV Movie Awards

The nominations for the 2006 MTV Movie Awards have been announced, and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire has been nominated in three categories.

Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint have been nominated in the Best On-Screen Team category. Ralph Fiennes, who played Lord Voldemort in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, was nominated in the Best Villain category. And Daniel Radcliffe was nominated in the Best Hero category.

Fans can vote for their favorites in each of the categories by going here.

The full list of nominations can be seen on the MTV web site. The 2006 MTV Movie Awards airs on Thursday, June 8 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
And from Digital Spy

Quote:
New composer for 'Harry Potter'

David Yates, the director of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, has announced the appointment of his long-term friend Nicholas Hooper as the composer for the new Potter movie.

Hooper, whose work for The Young Visitors won him the BAFTA for Best Original Score, will take over the reigns from internationally acclaimed composer John Williams, who left after the last film.

It has been speculated that this appointment could well change over the next months, with work on the score not actually due to start until 2007, but sources suggest that the announcement is correct and will remain the same.
Apart from wishing Digital Spy would get their facts right, I wish even more that John Williams would come back I'm getting used to Patrick Doyle's music for GoF now, but it will never be as good as John Williams' composition. And I don't want another new composer

It did make sense before WB confirmed that the OotP movie would be release 7/13/07. Now, I'm not convinced that will see the book release so close to the movie release. Too much HP at once I suppose.

Yeah, maybe you're right. I have to admit from the things JKR said in interviews, I'd guess end of this year or beginning of 2007 for the book release.

She still is writing the book and, considering how long it has taken her to write the others, probably will not be finished until the end of this year at least. Then you need several months for editing and printing.

My estimate - between July and October 2007.

Also, I am guessing that hte title will be pretty straightforward: Harry Potter and the Dark Lord or something to that effect.

I don't think she's gonna take that long to write the book . She's said a couple of times that she's had the story outlined for quite some time. I really believe we won't have to wait very long for book 7.

However, I wasn't 100 % happy with HBP so I really want her to take her time writing book 7. Don't want to be disappointed again. (I'm not saying book 6 wasn't any good. But it didn't quite meet my expectations. When first reading it, I often had the feeling I was reading fanfiction. On the second reading, the disappointment faded somewhat but HBP will never be my favorite book.)

Really? I loved HBP. I thought it was the best one yet. Considering I thought OotP needed some serious editing to which JKR also admitted to I think she approached HBP differently.

I agree with Myrddin, that even though she might of had the outline and plot points all figured out for book 7, she'll take her time and make sure it's perfect and not rushed. So a Fall 2007 release seems more likely to me right now. GOF was released in the Fall so perhaps book 7 will be too.

I didn't hate the book or anything. And unlike others, my problem with the book did not come from sunk ships. I just thought that it wasn't as well written as the other books were. As I said, from time to time I had the feeling I was reading fanfiction. But after reading the book again I didn't think it was sooo bad. Still, it will never be my favourite. (My favourite is PoA)
