I love this book too. If I thought SS was dark, this was a bit darker. I like Tom Riddle's backstory very much.

i recently finished re-reading this book. it was a great one. i think i preferred it to book 1 because things got so much more interesting. the whole riddle thing was a great way to incorporate voldemort into it without bringing him back just yet.
lockhart was super obnoxious but he was funny at the end when he lost his memory. dobby also annoyed me because he didnt help harry out at all. and if harry had just told dumbledore straight away that he was hearing voices it could have easily been resolved. __________________

I really like the part about Tom Riddle too. I basically love this book because of the whole "where's the Chamber of Secrets" question and as a "follow-up" to SS, it's pretty good. You get a feel of how the characters are now and I think by this book, one would already have a favorite or least favorite character.
I've always liked Snape. The books was making him out to be a "villain" type but it was my sister who was insistent that there was probably more to Snape that he is letting on so I was intrigued with the character. __________________

i didnt love snape until the movies, the actor made me like him.
now re reading it i do like him, but he was pretty mean to harry and neville and the Gryffindors at various points so its hard for me to really like him as much as i want to. __________________

I am watching CoS now.
Did Lucius know the diary was a Horcrux? What motivated him to slip it in Ginny's cauldron? Had he been communicating with Voldemort through it? |

I think Lucius did not know (Voldermort would not trust info like that on Lucius). I need a re-read but I think at the end of Book 2, we are led to believe by Dumbledore that Lucius chose to give the diary to Ginny so that the Weasley family image will be tarnished and that Arthur would get into trouble as he's not in good terms with him. The real reason, I need a refresher and I don't know why Lucius will carelessly leave a book in Ginny's cauldron but most certainly it is still an end to carry out whatever Voldemort's plans were and he is to follow that.

On HPWikia, it says that Lucius did know the diary was a Horcrux. He had given it to him before he killed James and Lily (obviously) but why did Lucius choose then to leave the diary Horcrux in a Hogwarts' student's hands? I mean, there were some 12 years before Ginny became in possession of it that Lucius could have done it. Of course, Draco hadn't been there so it wouldn't be as convenient, but still.

Lucius found out later on (I can't remember if it was HBP or DH) but in COS he doesn't know. I think Lucius was acting on Voldemort's orders? In this book:

That would explain why Voldemort was so pissed off at Lucius.

Yes. Poor Lucius though. Mostly he's Voldemort's errand boy.

Yep, he's Voldemort's bitch. It's too bad because Lucius was really devoted to the Dart Arts and helping Voldemort in any way to succeed. He would have killed and tortured for Voldemort, but yet it was never good enough.
