That creature is small so it can hide in any of Newt's coat pockets or even on his hair.

Yes even inside the bag. And I wouldn't worry about it suffocating there or something because the Bowtruckle looks like a stick that doesn't easily break too.

I think it dies when you purposely break it. I feel like that creature will be with Newt for a long time as long as it's well taken care of.
