A long, long time ago, there lived a boy named Harry Potter. He had a devastatingly tragic life, all made better by a loyal and trusting rapport that he had with his best friend, Hermione Granger. Little did they know, the loving friendship that they shared would turn into something more because of course, there are some things that you can't share without liking each other, and knocking out a 12-foot mountain troll is one of them.

So I've had this mini ficlet idea mulling through my head....Harry, Hermione and Ron are spending the night at say...I don't know, Grimmauld place. However Ron's snoring is keeping Harry awake. So Harry, finally frustrated with tossing and turning, grabs his pillow and his blanket and quietly sneaks out of the room. As he steps into the hallway, its nearly dark and the candles that gently flicker against the walls provide the only illumination. He ponders sleeping in the twins room but the small noises coming from their room above them suggest that he wouldn't find any peaceful sleep. He thinks about sleeping in the living room by the fireplace. Granted it would be a little chilly and the floo to the fireplace had been sealed shut somehow, he wouldn't get very much rest in between the shivering. He would make his way down the hall when he passed by Hermione's door.

He stops.

Hermione wouldn't mind, he thinks as he adjusts the pillow under his arm. He lifts his fist to knock but hesitates. He would wake her up and she would think something was wrong. instantly her voice would fill his head as it has always done of late: Are you alright Harry? Is it your scar?

No Harry thought to himself as he sighed, I'm just tired and your room seems to be the most quiet. It was a bit of a lie though, Ginny and Luna's room was just next to Hermione's. It was probably just as quiet but he didn't want them to break out into a silly giggle fest if he had asked them to spend the night in their room. So then Harry knocked gently three times, cracked open the door and poked his head in.

"Hermione?" he whispers in the dark room. There was a lump silhouetted against the windowsill that began to stir. "Hermione?" he whispers again. Suddenly a very sharp intake of breath and the lump forms into an upper body with a bushy head of hair.

"Harry?" her voice whispers back as she sits up in her bed, "Harry is that you?"

"Yes," he whispers moving himself further into the room, " Do you mind if I sleep here?"

A small moment of silence. " Is everything okay? Does your scar hurt?"

Harry half grinned in the darkness. "No...Ron's snoring is keeping me awake and I don't know where else to sleep. Do you mind?"

"No," said Hermione groggy voice that seemed a bit more alert than before, "no not at all."

Harry whipserd his thanks and closed the door behind him. Throwing his blanket on the floor next to her bed, he droped his pillow and laid down.

"What are you doing?" she asks him, looking down on him over her mattress.

"Um...I'm going to sleep."

Hermione sighed and Harry knew she was rolling her eyes at him even though he couldn't exactley see them. He did however hear her sheets being thrown back.

"You'll freeze on that floor."

"It's no big deal. I've slept on a stone floor before. I'll be fine."

Hermione just looked at him as if she was waiting for him to make the decision. Finally after two seconds Harry grunted and got up off the floor and hauled himself into the bed. She pushed herself over to give Harry more room and straightend out his side of the blankets.

"Thanks," he says turning on his side towards her and laying his head on the pillow.

"You're welcome."

He watches her face away from him and catches the scent of her on the pillow and the sheets. It was a rather pleasent smell. Harry smiled into his pillow and faced his back to her so she wouldn't see it if she turned around. Lucky for Harry though, Hermione has kept her back to him unaware that she is wearing the exact same grin high lighted by the moon pouring through the windowsill.

They wouldn't be aware of it of course that twice through the night Harry had his arm over her waist, that there faces were so close together at one point you could have sworn that they were about to kiss, that Hermione woud be the first one to wake and watch Harry sleep.

And for the first time in 16 years Harry had the best sleep of his life.

Whoa- sorry about that I got a bit carried away...

Just...about the thread title--"Isn't it NOT obvious?" Because...erm, the thread is...saying that "It is not obvious they're going to get together." Is that the meaning intended? Or, um, is it supposed to be "Is it NOT obvious" and somebody messed up with the double negative...

Just wondering.

about the title, I think it's supposed to mean that it's NOT obvious, which is probably why we all like them so much

I think what the title is saying is that it ISN'T obvious, which is a GOOD thing, you have to read between the lines on H/Hr, it's not ''in your face'' and, well, obvious, like R/Hr.
