No beach time for you? I'm going to Croatia in August. |

I'm only 45 minutes from the Ocean...and I love the beach. But I've got no one to go with so I just find that I don't bother.

Well that's no fun. Ever thought of going by yourself with the intention of trying to meet someone new?

Nope. I think "meeting someone new" at the beach is a lot easier when you are single and under 30.

I used to go to the beach (when we lived near it) just for the pleasure of being by the water. I'd pack up a bag with a blanket, a book, a beverage, and grab my beach umbrella. I'd sit under the umbrella, catching the breeze, watching the water or reading, and I really had a good time. Plus it's fun to people-watch!

I'm afraid I'm at that wonderful age where the sun-damage is showing up and the dermatologist has expressly told me to stay out of the sun. Lots of fun when you live in Florida! So,sun-bathing is out, beach volley-ball is out...and the only thing I would brave the beach for is a romp in the surf. But I wouldn't even do that unless there was someone I knew who would at least mention to a life guard that they hadn't seen me in quite a spell were there.
All right....busted. I'm the cautious type. |

I can be alone. I don't mind going to a movie by myself or eating a restaurant. But I am just not going to the beach unless I'm going to get a chance to go swimming in the water. And I don't trust myself to do that unless it's "Buddy system". But,s'all right. Ben asked me what I'd like to do for my birthday and I told him I'd like to go to the beach with him and he said that'd be fine. So I'm looking forward to that.

I think my fear of being in the ocean alone probably stems from my being completely blind without my glasses for my whole life. Without someone looking out for me,I would never have been able to see the shore or the life guard stand or even find my own blanket again!
About a year ago,I had an operation that left me with (not perfect but) very good eyesight. So,I'll really probably be fine. This will be the first time I'm there with new eyes though. I wonder how much more I will notice. |

Wow, I've always wondered what that would be like -- to be able to go swimming and actually see something! Let us know how it goes!

First,I've got to find a bathing suit that fits right. You can imagine how much I'm looking forward to that!
Why can't they just bring back those suits the girls wore in the Mack Sennett comedies.... |
