So...isn't it time we had an update on these guys? Still got 'em or have they made a "great escape"?

The "Beach Park Eight" continue fat (!) and sassy in incarceration. They've gotten quite bold, and no longer find it necessary to hide when I put my face up to the glass to look in on them. I think they've figured out where the Gourmet Tropical Carnivale Premium mouse food is coming from.

In addition to the eight rodents, we also now have eight (somehow it's the magic number at our house) fish. They're all refugees from the recent Purim carnival where I work, and they're all bettas. Bettas as in "can't share the same tank 'cuz we'll kill each other". So in addition to the Mouse House, I have 4 fish tanks (3 with dividers) and a cut-off 2 liter bottle that once held Diet Coke, all holding bettas.

The good news is that I've managed to find homes for a couple of the bettas, and they'll be leaving this week. There are no takers on the mice!

Ah,my kids used to love having bettas. At first, they didn't last too long but when we got the hang of putting a plant with roots in the bowl, longevity improved considerably. If I lived nearer I would definitely have put in a bid.....for the bettas.

Well, we staged our own version of Prison Break this past weekend -- the Beach Park Eight are on the lam in a nearby state park.

Damn, I miss the little guys!

Don't throw out the cage. I have a feeling that the last thing the big one said as he gave a last look around was "I'll be back!"

My local paper is reporting that someone in my town saw a bear in his back yard. He wondered what had pulled some deeply imbedded wood posts and fencing down...not many animals strong enough to do that. Went out to investigate...and saw a big bear lumbering alongside the creek.

Wow,I'm used to hearing about someone seeing a snake or a croc...but a bear??

Guess all the construction is destroying habitat.

Sure ... I'll take him as a gift to the mayor. A SURPRISE gift!

(I live in a small town with a seriously insane mayor.)
