I think the best way to describe it is something that goes beyond friends and lovers. Not that they couldn't still have a romantic relationship too.   It's just their love/connection is that deep.  It's really amazing the evolution from mortal enemies to a real true love.  It only took about 6 years.  Season 1 was 13 episodes. Then you have Season 3 with no Spike but one episode.  __________________

Buffy is sad and hurt that Spike left even after the AR.
Plus trusted Dawn still with him. I can't believe I never read this before. Buffy and Dawn find out Spike left Town at the end of Season 6.   CLEM He left. Town. Buffy takes this in, pained despite herself. BUFFY Oh. DAWN He just took off? CLEM (nods) That's why I'm staying here for him. Sweet pad like this goes empty a few days, you'll lose it for sure. (sheepish) Plus - I don't have a TV. Buffy and Dawn are silent, processing this news. CLEM (cont'd) I'm surprised he didn't tell you. He was kind of in a hurry. I guess. Clem smiles - nods. Buffy heads for the door. Pauses briefly - feeling Spike's absence... BUFFY (cont'd) Did he say when he was coming back? CLEM Spike? No. Only that he could be gone a while. Hey Missy.
It really makes me wonder how things would have went if Spike stayed. Did Buffy already forgive him? She looks really sad in that cap. I always thought she acted sad and hurt. This proves it's Canon. __________________

I always wonder that too if he would have stayed. But I am kind of glad he left bc that led to getting his soul back and where they get to in season 7.

I'm glad things worked out the way it did.
 I couldn't forgive what he did if he hadn't fought for his soul back. I don't think I could. It still amazes me how much Buffy still cared about him.   __________________
