I'll try my best not to mention anything about That Orange Guy Who Shall Not Be Named but I don't see why certain topics are banned amongst friends.

You sound like my supervisor.

Everything in the solar system (animal rights, feminism, environmentalism, human rights, lgbt, black lives matter, health care, education, NASA, the media, judicial system, taxes, etc.) technically falls under politics. Not ever talking about politics is basically just keep conversations to "Did you see who won on American Idol?" or "How is the weather today?"

FYI, that was NOT me talking about politics. That was me saying I'll try not to talk about politics and asking why we're not allowed to talk about politics.

It's just a bad idea.

You know what I mean.

It's only a bad idea if someone on here is an alt-right.

But I'll do as you say and only talk about tv shows and books. Although, most forms of media, especially YA, rely heavily on politics. It's pretty much the whole point dystopian stories. The Hunger Games. Divergent. The Giver. Matched. Delirium. The Maze runner. Ender's game.

Paranormal creatures in modern stories are usually metaphors for how diverse people deal with living in racist and homophobic communities.

Almost everything ties into a metaphor for battling Hitler & the Nazis.

Harry Potter:

Voldemort = Hitler
Death Eaters = Nazis

Lord of the Rings:

Sauron = Hitler
Orcs = Nazis

change of topic

I found the perfect birthday present in the back office at work. I'm going to try to leave hints so whoever owns it knows I want it. It's a Yoda keychain. There is so much stuff in the back office that I bet nobody even knows if it belongs to someone. They probably just threw it in there like a random knickknack and forgot about it. But it would be perfect for me because my sister almost exclusively refers to me as "Yoda" and my stepdad refers to me as "Toyota" which is close to Yoda. And I'm really sad over Carrie Fisher dying and so am really pro Star Wars at the moment.

I'm sad about Carrie Fisher, but glad she'll be in the next movie that they were able to finish with her.

A Yoda keychain sounds cute.

I like the one with "Luke, I am your father." Love that line.

I haven't watched the series too many times, but I like it. Good vs. Evil and all that.

Star Wars started out very campy but with themes inspired by Joseph Campbell's literary work on the hero's journey and mythology.

The "force" is just a new way of talking about the Biblical "holy ghost" and the Japanese "kami" and the scientific "unified field theory".

An elderly man who trains a sure hearted young warrior. Yoda & Jedis. Watchers & Slayers. Merlin & Arthur.

Star Wars:

Darth Vader = Hitler
Storm Troopers = Nazis
