This thread is dedicated to Xander and Buffy's friendship, which I liked the best in the show. They argue, they fight, but when things get serious they put that behind and be there for each other.

Season One: Prophecy Girl

Buffy: Xander, you're one of my best friends. I don't want to spoil the friendship that we have.

Xander: Well, I don't want to spoil it either. But that's not the
point, is it? You either feel a thing or you don't.

Buffy: I don't. Xander, I'm, I'm sorry. I-I just don't think of you that way.

Xander: Well, try. I'll wait. (smiles weakly)

Buffy: Xander...

Xander: Nah. Forget it. I'm not him. I mean, I guess a guy's gotta be undead to make time with you.

Buffy: That's really harsh.

Xander: Look, I'm sorry. I don't handle rejection well. Funny! Considering all the practice I've had, huh?

Buffy: Xander, I'm sorry, I don't know...

Xander: You know what? Let's just not.

*~*~*

Xander: (to Angel) I don't like you. At the end of the day, I pretty much think
you're a vampire. But Buffy's got this big old yen for you. She thinks you're a real person. And right now I need you to prove her right.

Angel: You're in love with her.

Xander: Aren't you?

*~*~*

Xander: C'mon! Breathe! Breathe!

After another moment Xander stops pumping. Angel believes her lost. A
second later Buffy opens her eyes wide and draws a breath. She lies
still for a moment as she looks around with her eyes.

Xander: Buffy!

She turns her head to the side and coughs out a bunch of water. Xander
and Angel look at each other and smile. Xander puts his hand on Buffy's
forehead and strokes it gently. She looks up at him, surprised to see
him.

Xander: Buffy.

Buffy: Xander?

Xander: Welcome back.

Season Two: Phases:

Buffy: (to herself) Angel. (gets to her knees)

Xander: (leans down to her) Are you okay?

Buffy: (takes his hand) This isn't happening. (pulls herself up and
hugs Xander) He's gonna keep coming after me.

Xander: (hugs back gently) Don't let him get to you. He's not the same
guy you knew.

She pulls back a bit and looks up at him. He looks back kindly.

Season Three: Graduation Part 1:

Xander: I don't mean to play devil's advocate here, but are you sure you're up to this?
Buffy: It's time.
Xander: We're talking to the death.
Buffy: I can't play kid games anymore. This is how she wants it.
Xander: I just don't want to lose you.
Buffy: I won't get hurt. (reaches into a weapons cabinet)
Xander: That's not what I mean.
Buffy: Just get me an address.

Season Four: The Freshmen:

Xander: Buffy, I've gone through some fairly dark times in my life, faced some scary things, among them the kitchen at 'The Fabulous Ladies Night Club.' Let me tell you something, when it's dark and I'm all alone and I'm scared or freaked out or whatever, I always think, 'What would Buffy do?' You're my hero. Ok, sometimes when it's dark and I'm all alone I think, 'What is Buffy wearing?'
Buffy: Can that be one of those things you never, ever, tell me about?
Xander: It's a deal. Let's put this bitch in the ground! What do you say?
She holds out her right hand and he helps her up.
Buffy: I think I say thank you.
Xander: And nothing says thank you like dollars in the waistband. Ok, what do we do first?

Season Five: I Was Made to Love You:

BUFFY: That's my secret to attracting men. You know, it's simple really, you slap 'em around a bit, you torture 'em, you make their lives a living hell-
XANDER: Buff...
BUFFY: ...and sure, the nice guys, they'll run away, but every now and then you'll meet a real prince of a guy like Spike who gets off on it.
XANDER: Buffy. The problem is not you. Don't do this to yourself, please.
BUFFY: It's just ... I just wanna know that there's gonna be another good one. One that I won't chase away.
XANDER: There will be. Promise. He's out there, he could come along any minute.
BUFFY: Yeah, and the minute after that I can terrify him with my alarming strength and remarkable self-involvement.
XANDER: What? I don't think you're like that.
BUFFY: Maybe I could change. You know, I could, I could work harder. I could spend less time slaying, I could laugh at his jokes, I mean, men like that, right, the, the joke-laughing-at?
XANDER: Or maybe you could just be Buffy, he'll see your amazing heart, and he'll fall in love with you.

Buffy looks touched.

BUFFY: Xander, that's ... aw!

She puts her arms around Puffy Xander and rests her head on his big puffy chest.

BUFFY: I mean, look at me obsessing about being with someone. It's like ... I don't need a guy right now. I need me. I need to get comfortable being alone with Buffy.
XANDER: Well, I'll say this, she's a pretty cool person to be alone with.
BUFFY: (smiles) Thank you.

Season Six: Seeing Red:

XANDER: The past few weeks...
BUFFY: I know.
XANDER: I thought I hit bottom, but ... it hurt. That you didn't trust me enough to tell me about Spike. (pauses, softly) It hurt.
BUFFY: I'm sorry. I should have told you.
XANDER: (small smile) Maybe you would have, if I hadn't given you so many reasons to think I'd be an ass about it.
BUFFY: Guess we've all done a lot of things lately we're not proud of.
XANDER: (slightly larger smile) I think I've got you beat.
BUFFY: Wanna compare?
XANDER: Not so much.

Beat. They smile tentatively at each other.

XANDER I don't know what I'd do ... without you and Will.
BUFFY: (teary) Let's not find out.

Xander nods. They hug.

BUFFY I love you. You know that, right?

Season Seven: Beneath You:

XANDER
At a spanking new Hellmouth High. Please. Outside of drugs and violence and the unwanted pregnancy, and, uh, unleashing of hordes of Armageddon that comes pouring out of the school's foundation every now and then, what trouble could these kids have?

BUFFY
Guess I'll find out.

XANDER
Those kids are damn lucky having a slayer and a friend on campus there for 'em. I hope they appreciate it. I know I did. (Xander and Buffy share a smile)

Season Eight: A Beautiful Sunset:

BUFFY: Are we doing any good? We’ve been fighting more demons, but… but it just seems like there’s more demons to fight, and, what, is that because of us?

Xander smiles back at Buffy, his face certain in his response.

XANDER: Buffy. Turn around.

From above, we see the two of them look down castle grounds below, and the dozens of Slayers down there.

XANDER: I live with a bunch of Slayers. Dozens of girls who are… so *filled up* with purpose, with confidence they didn’t have before… the walls are vibrating with it. I can’t sleep, the place is so charged.

Buffy is leaning against the stone wall along the rampart. She is looking over at Xander, smiling fondly.

BUFFY: You really need to ask Renee out already.

XANDER: Stop changing the subject to true things. Maybe now we’re only cleaning up messes, but we’re just getting started. What you’ve created here is a lot more than just monster fighters. It’s… you know, ah…

Buffy is looking sad again.

BUFFY: Connection. Why can’t I feel it?

Xander rubs his chin as he answers.

XANDER: Maybe you don’t get to. Maybe the leader, the girl who brings it all together, is the one that has to give that up.

Down below, we see the Slayers, happily training and sparring with each other. Up in the distance, we see the shapes of Buffy and Xander watching them.

BUFFY: Yeah.

Buffy stares ahead with resignation on her face.

BUFFY: Yay me.

I love Spuffy fics in general but the added Xander/Dawn would be interesting. I bet Spike would have more of a problem with it then Buffy because he hates "the welp"

Nah, I don't think so. Buffy would have more problem with it in my opinion. She hit Xander on the arm when she thought he was talking about Dawn when he said "I wanna marry that girl."

Spike won't really care much, he doesn't seem to have that strong brother/sister relationship with Dawn anymore, and even if he still did, it's not up to him to decide who Dawn dates, he may joke about it, "Got one lousy taste there, Nibblet." but he won't butt in.
