I give Angel a lot of flak for having some sort of "Buffy amnesia" on a lot of AtS but it actually didn't take him that long to realize he wanted/needed to be with her again. It was only 3 1/2 years between I will remember you (giving up his humanity and chance to have everything with Buffy) & End of Days (making it clear to Buffy he is all in and willing to wait for whenever she's ready to take him back).

Honestly, I think they only did that because of the contrived C/A storyline. I wasn't buying it then and even decades later, I still don't. I understood they didn't want him brooding about Buffy every episode and I understand they wanted to forge a strong bond between Cordy and Angel, but they never needed to make them romantic. Platonic relationships between sexes do actually exist.
