Angel gave Buffy jewelry three times (a cross necklace, a ring, an amulet necklace).

The first he gave her, the second they exchanged, and the third she gave to Spike.

The first one saved her life (from Luke when he tried to bite her in the sarcophagus but her neck was protected).
The second one saved his life (from Hell when she placed it on the floor of the mansion and he returned seconds later).
The third one saved her life (Angel was there to stop Caleb from killing her because he came to Sunnydale to give her the amulet *and fight beside her*)

The cross necklace ended up burning Angel while the amulet burned Spike. And later in the night after exchanging rings, Angel & Buffy are almost burned to death by The Judge.

And Buffy put back on the cross necklace before facing The Master who left her to drown. Angel & Buffy exchanged rings on the docks and then he jumped into the water to save her from drowning. A few hours after Buffy gave Spike the amulet he has a dream about drowning.

The only double ship thread on this board I recognize.

I think the comic writers missed a great opportunity to make Buffy immortal. The girl who thought she would be dead before she was 25 who was involved with two immortals.

They had plenty of material to make it work. I mean, it could've been left over from when she was regenerated into pretty much a goddess. Destroying the Seed caused her to go back to being a Slayer but it doesn't mean she didn't get to keep any of the powers.

Some people think that Buffy was made immortal in Bargaining. That it is why she survived getting shot so close to the heart and beat so severely by that uber Turak-han and getting run through with a sword.

Season 7’s “Beneath You” parallels season 1′s “Angel”. In this episode, after Buffy finds out Angel is a vampire with a soul, they kiss and we see the cross Angel gave her searing his chest. In "Beneath You” after Buffy realizes Spike has a soul, he drapes his body on a large cross as it burns him. Angel tells her: “I wanted to kill you tonight” and Spike uses the words “I dreamed of killing you”.
