Joss originally was going to keep Angel dead before he had the idea for a spinoff, right?

It think Joss felt that, as a writer, the BA story had been told and he was finished with it.

I can't imagine a BTVS where Angel sticks around after S3 and he and Buffy have an on-again-off-again soap opera relationship up until the end. God, that would've been boring. Plus very reductive and limiting for both characters. They did so much growing after they broke up.

No I still remember the talks on FF about how Joss didn't write Spuffy as a joke as much in that episode as Bangel.

Spike & Angel as char. acted like idiots but as far as any mocking of the Spuffy relationship we didn't get that other than Angel saying all they did was have sex but no relationship.

Spike replying it is if you do it enough times. Not good but still not as bad as it could have been.

Angel said he made Buffy kill him with his eyes.



Joss didn't do any mocking like that with Spuffy.

The WB came up with the idea for the spinoff not even Joss.

He got stuck with bringing Angel back Season 3 when he had nothing to write.

It was so obvious. Bangel was so painful to watch that season.

I was just a casual viewer then & not even thought of Spuffy or Cangel as couples yet.

SMG & DB chemistry from Seasons 1 & 2 fizzled out too.

What is so weird is how well Spike fit in with the gang even though he was never really a Scooby.

Angel though he didn't fit at all ever!


I would have quit watching if I had to sit through Bangel going back & forth like they did Season 3 more seasons.

The best thing to happen to Angel was him leaving for LA.

He has no personality with Buffy.

The only time we actually saw him really smile & laugh even on BTVS is with Cordy in Halloween.

Actually it is.

You would think death is the worst thing that can happen to your ship.

Sure Spike was brought back but on screen Buffy never finds out.

I've had worst done with writers expecting you to ignore what you have seen on a show up to a point just to make another ship look better.

Having one half of a couple hate the other guts in the end.

Both those are worse than what was done to Spuffy & Cangel combined.

It was at least made clear that both couples were in love & if things could be diff. they would be together.

I agree. I’ve had shows destroy my pairing/favorite character to prop another ship up that made no sense from the writing up until that point. Made me hate the show in there end.

So while Spuffy/Cangel is very bitter sweet and even vague to an existent, fans can still come up with their own head canons and explore in fics.

With the other ships I mentioned, I don’t care to explore or read fics. Dead to me
