It was a girls' night out – plus dad – for Britney Spears Friday.

Spears, in a black dress and sun-kissed blonde hair, told PEOPLE she's doing "good" at Ed Hardy designer Christian Audigier's 50th birthday party at L.A.'s Petersen Automotive Museum.

Spears, 26, hung with two girlfriends in a roped-off VIP area at Audigier's blowout gala. Fergie, Snoop Dogg, Pamela Anderson and – surprise! – Michael Jackson also made appearances.

Jamie Spears joined his daughter, sitting on a couch about five feet away with his head resting on his hands.

Spears stayed about an hour and a half, smoking cigarettes on an outside patio, nodding her head to a live performance from Macy Gray, and abstaining from alcohol. When she left for the evening, her father joined her.

"I am friends with Britney," Audigier told PEOPLE before the party. "She was at my office, I believe, three weeks ago. She got some presents for Jamie-Lynn and herself too. She got a ton of T-shirts, a ton of caps. She loved it."

Spears left the party before Jackson, clad in a shiny blue shirt, came onstage to wish Audigier happy birthday.

Jamie Spears' full-time job is now working for his daughter as conservator of her estate, court papers show.

The pop star returned home from a Costa Rican vacation at Mel Gibson's house earlier this week.

Yeah he is very dedicated to helping britney and he just wants the best for her and I have a lot of respect for him for doing what he has done over the past while.I hope britney had a good time at the party,I love that black dress she looked stunning.

I love how much Jamie is helping her. It's so nice

I hope she gets a chance to put her OWN songs in the new album. Because I know she wrote a lot of songs for Blackout but only two made it in the record. It's a pity because the songs she writes or co-writes are usually really good.
Examples: Everytime, Someday I Will Understand, Let Me Be, The Hook Up, etc.

Besides I want to know what she FEELS. What is going on in her life in HER OWN WORDS, what she wants to express.

Funny how the media portrays the people in her life. It's so black and white. This guy, to me, seems like just friend / associate status. Nothing more. Next thing ya know she'll be married to this guy.

Amen to that I really don't understand why ever guy she is seen with automatically has to be the new man in her life. It is getting really out really fast.

Whenever any celebrity is seen with a member of the opposite sex, the first thing they post is that that person must be a romantic interest for that celeb. Sometimes they are right, but like mentioned above, it IS possible for men and women to be just friends!

I agree. This happens all the time. Everytime Britney is seen with some guy they are automatically dating. Maybe they are just friends.....maybe he's working with her. Who knows.

I'm very surpried right now because I have just checked out some trabloid covers and they all have positive Britney headlines. Maybe they got tired of making stupid stuff up and realize Britney is doing very well.

John Lyndon, aka Johnny Rotten, is keen to write a song for Britney Spears after her recent troubles.
