Abby Morgan is definitely my favourite female character they had on the show (followed very closely by Jen) because she was original, she definitely spiced up the show, at the beginning before her appearance the show was kind of, I don't know, the four main characters never really dealt with issues concerning other people...and they never really introduced bitchy characters in...but then they introduced Abby in and the show really did have a high school feel. I love the Jen/Abby friendship because Jen really did feel like she was out of the group once she broke up with Dawson and Abby helped her find her way back to the group...and I think in some ways Abby did need to die in the show for Jen's character to find herself...and Abby's death also helped her find her friendship with Jack.

You've also mentioned Drue Valentine here, he is without a doubt my favourite male character on the show (Pacey closely follows) because he did the exact same thing as Abby....he spiced up the show and yet again helped Jen find her way. Because, again, Jen was struggling with her past and it was never really addressed (well the relationship with her father anyways) and Drue helped her character deal with her family problems.

I don't know why Monica Keena quit the show, even though her death did seem neccessary to the show in some ways (as it also brought Joey peace about her own mothers death) I think it would've been interesting to see your character evolve and grow with the group and see her friendship with Jen grow...I would be interesting to see whether she actually joined the group and became a 'good guy'...but unfortunetly we'll never know

It was great that jen had a real girl friend in Abby for a while. i feel at that time jen needed it.
