Clark/Marty [Love Comes Softly]: Because Marriage Was The Deal. Love Was The Surprise

THE CLARK/MARTY APPRECIATION THREAD

I just saw this movie on tv today, i enjoyed it - it a sweet and simple tv movie, Katherine was great in it, so was Dale Midkiff and the little girl - i loved the relationship between Clark/Marty and how it developed and also Marty and Clark's daughter Missie, some very sweet/cute moments in the movie, i am going to get the dvd , Has anybody seen it?

SYNOPSIS
Marty (Katherine Heigl, Roswell) and Aaron Calridge (Oliver Macready, That '70s Show) have come west in search of fortune. But unforeseen tragedy leaves Marty a widow facing bleak prospects for the future. With a bitter winter season approaching and no safe passage back home, she finds herself stranded yet befriended by settlers Ben Graham (Golden Globe nominee Corbin Bernsen, L.A. Law) and his wife Sarah (Theresa Russell, Black Widow). They encourage her to take up widower Clark Davis (Dale Midkiff, Nancy Drew) on his unusual offer—join him in a temporary marriage of convenience. Marty will have a roof over her head until the spring thaw when she can return home. In the meantime, Clark’s nine-year-old daughter Missie (Skye McCole Bartusiak, Don't Say a Word) will have a teacher.

As promised, the arrangement is strictly business. However, teaching Missie, who’s still grieving for her mother, becomes as challenging as living with Clark, a man cut off from his emotions. For three people, each mourning someone they’ve lost, comfort comes from sharing their pain and hardships. But is it enough to make two lonely hearts recognize what they really need and want? As the seasons pass, and Marty gets closer to the day of her departure, she finally discovers the meaning of courage, her inner faith, a love she never thought possible, and the bittersweet truth in her friend Sarah’s sage advice: Bloom where you’re planted.

Quotes

Clark Davis: The truth of God's love is not that he allows bad things to happen. It's His promise that He'll be here with us when they do.

Marty Claridge: There is no way you're going to be my - my midwife! Find someone else!
Clark Davis: There ain't no time for that.
Marty Claridge: *Isn't!* I'll be fine. I'll be fine. Did you deliver Missie?
Clark Davis: No, there was Sarah...
Missie Davis: But Pa's delivered plenty of calves.
Marty Claridge: [sarcastically] Oh, that makes me feel so much better.
Clark Davis: Missie, we'll need a lot of hot water and the shears from the barn. They'll need to be sterilized.
Marty Claridge: Missie! Missie, don't you dare!
[Clark gestures and tells Missy to go]
Marty Claridge: I would rather give birth in a field than have you in here!
Clark Davis: Child birth is a natural event.
Marty Claridge: Ooooooh, if you feel what I'm feeling you'll see how natural it is. Now get out!
[she has another contraction]
Marty Claridge: Oh, I can't do this alone. Please help me. Please!
[she holds up her left hand which has her wedding ring on it]

Clark Davis: A man loses his woman, he goes after her. It's as simple as that.

Marty Claridge: I just don't understand why the God you pray to would let such unthinkable things happen to decent people.

Marty Claridge: [a letter that Marty writes to Clark] Dear Clark, the wagon train will be leaving soon, but I don't want to go. Ask me to stay. Love, Marty.

Clark Davis: Father, I don't know why you brought Marty into my life only to have her leave like this. I don't always understand your plan, but I ask you with a shattered heart, please help me to accept it. Amen.

Marty Claridge: I have to stay for the right reasons
Clark Davis: Stay because I love you. I love you!
Marty Claridge: Maybe I should stay because I love *you*.

Marty Claridge: The books. How did you know they were mind and not Aaron's?
Clark Davis: Oh, well, a man would have thrown them off the wagon at the first big hill. Unless he was trying to please a stubborn woman.

Marty Claridge: (to Missie) I might be leaving, but my love is staying here with you.

I adore this movie . It's truly one of my favorite Hallmark and Katherine Heigl movies ever(might I add I believe it is also the most highly rated still). It is a very simple movie, but it's so poignant and touches the heartstrings. I thought Marty/Clark were amazing, and so telling.

One of my favorite shot is when he saves her in the snow blizzard, and he carrying to the house.

This movie is basically the first of seven books to the Love Comes Softly series. Hallmark, thus far, has been going book by book. Clark and Marty(still played by Heigl) is in the second movie Love's Enduring Promise. Then the movies are taken over by Missy's character. Clark makes an apperance now and then, but Marty is no longer seen(but is reference).

Awww....the cradle .

Another scene I like is Clark finding all the remians to the chicken on the stump..."it's more like a crazy woman with an ax". He has the cutest smile there. It's like he is getting the life he once had back .

Definately a high fan of these films! By far it's my favorite Katherine film too.

There's just something so touching about these. I don't have the movies but I have all 8 books (and read them all) and they are just incredible. As I read each of the books, I always saw Katherine as Marty- there can be no one else, even if they do get an older woman to play her. Katherine is Marty Clarige Davis it's as simple as that.

I saw this movie for the very first time a little while ago. Didn't even know Katherine was in it when I started watching it. I really liked it though. It was very sweet.
