This thread moves very slow

I don't mind the thread title unless Roxy can think of something.

Hey guys!

The Herald Sun profiled Emilie in today's Sunday magazine, featuring the same photoshoot as in Rox's icon! Thought I'd share some scans for those outside of Melbourne:

I've no idea why the third page scanned bigger than the rest. Sorry about that!

I find it extraordinary that she's received so little exposure here, despite her roles on Beastmaster and Roswell. I guess it's been for the best considering her quiet success. She's pretty much leap-frogged the hurdles a struggling Aussie actor would face on a path to US fame.

It sounds like she really has done a teriffic job of convincing everyone that she's American. She had me fooled during her Roswell days and I like to think I'm pretty good at picking up on "put on" accents! As impressed as I was with her performance as Tess, I think she's a commendable credit to Lost. Yay for Aussie actors who don't pretend to have lost their natural accents.

Thank so much for the scans Kat

I didn't know that Emilie was Australian in the early days of Roswell either.

Its great that she is finally getting recognised

You're most welcome, Bel! Nice to see you here, btw. I've missed you!

I'm in good company, by the sound of it! It's fabulous that she's finally getting recognition, I agree. It's well deserved and about time. It seems so wrong that Australia hadn't known how well one of our actors has done for herself up till now!

I don't mind at all, Leya! It's a pleasure to supply them for such good use, so you're very welcome. I appreciate the kind credit note. Your site is fabulous, btw! I've bookmarked it for future reference.

Hi Kat

I've missed you too, I've been very lazy and haven't visited the Delta board in quite a while. The Oz OT Thread and others seem to be keeping me away

I totally agree with you there, I think Emilie is wonderful actress and from what I've read back in the Roswell days she is a nice person.

Aw, I can understand, Bel. I know how hard it is to keep up with all the threads. I'm rather guilty of that myself! I need to stop in at Oz Fun sometime soon.

I'm glad to hear the general opinion that Emilie's a nice person too! I haven't really read/seen any one on one interviews till this one in the Sunday mag. I was struck by how unfazed and down to earth she seemed for someone who's achieved so much and working among the Hollywood elite. Not that she needs it, but turning up to an interview without having fussed over her outfit and makeup was of interest to me. It implies that she isn't consumed by glitz and superficiality. An admirable quality in any celebrity, but one you don't see too often any more.

Thanks Kat.

I'm shocking I tend to open threads or post in thraeds and never come back

I haven't been tot he Oz GG Thread in a while

I know Emilie has had a great run of success with only being in the US for a month then landing the role of Tess on Roswell

There's a great interview with Emilie and one of those late night talk show hosts where she whips out some Australian money and says how great our money is as we distinguish it by colour unlike the US where its all the same ... she also mentioned about how they (the US) drive on the wrong side of the rode

I'm really happy that's she's finally getting recognised here in her native country ... hopefully she'll be on Rove or something

Ok .. I babble alot

Oh, me too, Bel! I opened the Gringotts thread on the HP board and the John Mayer thread on the Music board; I haven't visited either in ages and feel terribly guilty. It all comes down to time restraints, I guess. Any spare time I have is spent on the Delta board. I hate the thought of losing touch with all my friends, on the Oz threads particularly. I won't let it come to that.

Wow, that's incredible! I can just imagine how many American actresses she must have beaten for that role.

Oh, that sounds great! I'm glad to hear she educated the American audience on that. I remember discussing that with some Canadians on the Oz Fun thread a while ago. We both have coloured money, so it's a wonder America hasn't followed suit! They're trying to keep with tradition, I s'pose. But ours really is far more practical! Likewise with our road rules!

I'd love if she got a guest spot on Rove! I think Aussies would be really eager to see her interviewed now that Lost has been so successful. Does she come home often these days? I guess there's always satellite interviews aswell, but it'd be nice to see her actually on the show!

I babble more, so I won't hold it against you.

I see what you mean. I'm on FF quite a bit But I have tendency to stick with the OT thread as I'm more up with the conversation then the other threads I tend to post in.

How's everythign going with you? I haven't spoken to you "properly" in ages.

I agree with the money some of my friends have visited the US and have said that they've got to play close attention to the money.

I think she comes back to Australia at Christmas she was here in December 2004, I'm not sure how long she stayed for, but her fiancee proposed to her in Australia

Aw thanks Kat I like a good babble.

Hehee. Aw, well that's fair enough! I lurk a lot in between posting too, which is terrible 'cause it means I hardly get any work done. Sometimes I plan to spend a few minutes perusing and it turns into a few hours. Oh well...

Things are going pretty well, thanks Bel. I know - it's been so long! I've had an eventful past couple of months. Went away to Cairns for a week with my best friend, which was fabulous, but not long enough (it never is!). And I flew to Sydney to see Delta's second Sydney show with Eves. She and her family were kind enough to have me stay for the weekend. I've hated getting back into the swing of things with uni since I got back. My thesis is due for submission in two months time. Ugh. I'm beginning to wonder what I've got myself into there!

Enough about me though. How have you been? How's work, and any progress made with your travel plans?

That's what Mum and Dad found (with US money) when they were in Hawaii earlier this year too. I'm sure it'd take me a while to come up with the right amount each time I bought something. Not looking forward to that aspect of travelling overseas!

Oh, that's nice that she likes to come home for Christmas. I know Delta wants to come home this Christmas too. It's probably the most ideal time for celebrities to visit their families. Everyone's wrapped up in their own Christmas plans, so it's quieter. How lovely that Emilie's fiancee proposed to her over here! That's really sweet. It would have been great for her to share that with her family in person rather than over the phone, I'm sure.

That makes two of us!

Wow! You've had an exciting couple of months. That's great that you were able to see Delta twice. I really wanted to see her, but I had no one to go with Was this the first time that you met Evie? That's lovely of her parents to let you stay .... I remember from the Oz Fun GG days, that Evie's Mum seemed very cool.

I know what you mean, its hard when you've had that break and you come back and there is so much to do. Goodluck with your thesis .. what's it on?

I'm doing ok thanks. Work is becoming more and more challenging. I don't know what to do as to leave or stick with it and see what happens. I think its just one of those bad months .... not everything go well for you I guess all year

I don't have any travel plans at the moment, I need to save some more money. I did want to go to Europe next year, but with work and stuff I'm not sure where I'll go. Its also the cost that's worrying me. But we'll see how I go. I need to stop spending so much money ... I tend to buy a lot of stuff from eBay and Amazon

I thought so too ..... after being away for months or years it must be nice to come home. I hope that Delta can come home for Christmas. Has her US album been released yet?

That's what I about FF is that you can always have a good babble and noone seems to mind

Sure did! I listed my Melbourne ticket on eBay for a very good price - to make up the cost of my Sydney one, but there were no takers. I think it was meant to be that I ended up going to both. I had a brilliant time at each show for different reasons, so it all worked out wonderfully well. I'm so sorry to hear you had toruble finding a concert buddy. I have that problem with just about every show I go to, and Delta was no exception. I went to the Melbourne show alone, as I did with a previous instore. But it was worth every cent to see the second one with Eves. It was the first time we'd met so that was all very exciting. I remember those Oz Fun chats and the time Eves' mum wrote us a "hello" note! She really is that cool. Her whole family were lovely. I got on particularly well with her sister too. She took came along with us to the show and out to try Krispy Kreme doughnuts on another day. I was so impressed, I ended up with a box load for the flight home. It ended up being cancelled, but that's another story...

It's never a smooth transition, is it? Thanks for the luck! My thesis applies psychoanalytic theory to examine how introspective journeys of protagonists in supernatural fiction are exaggerated in the same way that day to day adolescents perceive themselves. My premise stems from a theoretic term called "the fantastic". It's that uncertainty in magic realist fiction when the boundaries between fantasy and reality are blurred. Characters generally distinguish between the two in order to perceive themselves and the world clearly. But I argue that it's an internalisation of the two that shapes and clarifies the adult perception for adolescent characters, and their adolescent counterparts. Hope I haven't bored you to death already with that vague synopsis! I haven trouble explaining it to anyone who asks. Right now it's in strings of notes and essays. I'm slowly getting it into chapter form and hoping a structure will aid my description when the next person asks!

Aw. Sorry to hear work's been rough on you! It's the hardest thing when you're unhappy, but aren't sure whether to move on or give it some more time just in case. If it's really getting you down it might be best to move on. But if there's a possibility that things may improve, there's only one way to find out. There's no harm in taking a little time to test the waters. Best of luck deciding what to do, Bel. I know what you mean about the cost of travel. While booking my Cairns trip, I was astounded at the airfares and accomodation costs and that was only domestic and off-peak. I've accepted that there's no way I'll be travelling again anytime soon until I have ayear of full time work under my belt. We all have to treat ourselves with a little shopping on and offline too.

I love that about FF too! It's great to be able to keep up with your friends in between all the on topic discussion. FF truly is a community in that sense.

That's great I didn't realise that you went by yourself. I was thinking about going by myself. But I'd have to get a taxi there and back, which would cost about $40 each way. I kind of wished that I went, but oh well, hopefully another time

Oh no, your flight got cancelled ... hope you didn't have to weight too long.

Sounds like you had a wonderful time with Evie and her family .... I've heard about Krispy Kremes (apparently they're Jason Behr's favourite) hopefully they'll come to Perth soon.

Your thesis sounds very interesting. You didn't bore me at all.

Speaking of selling tickets on eBay, I've got to sell my Missy Higgins ticket for Perth. As originally Howie Day was supposed to be peforming who I love, but he pulled out at the last minute. My friends are going, but I was only going to see Howie.

I know, one of my friends is travelling around the US and she emailed me today to say that she was down to her last $500 and she still has 4 more weeks before she is home.

Thanks for your advice about work Its tough, I'm not really sure what I'm feeling. Its hard to move on from what I've got, and its scary thinking of looking for another job again. I don't even have a CV

I shopping online, I've brought some good stuff ... mainly my cds and DVD's

I know, I'd be lost without FF. I remember when they were having problems years ago, but its good to see that things are going smoothly.

On topic for once. The same article that you posted was in The Sunday Times Magazine (STM) last Sunday here in Perth It was great to see Emilie on the cover.
