3x14 – The Wannabe in the Weeds

Too cute that the episode starts right out with our American Idol stars, with Branndon Rogers singer and Ace Young in the audience, then him singing. <thud> VERY GOOD. Ooooo I have to say I actually LOVED Ace’s version of “Far Away”. I was never really a fan of his on AI, but yeah … this was good. I think I want that version. Seriously. Oooooo but apparently Ace’s character took the other’s guys song! Ha ha. So freaking funny. And then poor Ace turns out to be the dead guy.

And at the crime scene poor Booth keeps sneezing. And Brennan’s description of allergies!
Brennan: How does a former sniper have a grass allergy? I mean, wouldn’t a sneeze give away your position?
Booth: Bones. Okay. I worked in the desert. Sand. No grass.
Then the driver guy starts giving Booth a hard time about the sneezing, his eyes swelling, etc.

<Booth and Brennan arrive at a house>
Booth: I hear someone in there.
Brennan: Hey, break down the door.
Booth: It’s hurts my shoulder when I break down the door.
<Booth knocks, looks in window and Brennan just opens the door>
Booth <grabbing her arm and preventing her from entering alone> You don’t just walk in!
House owner/renter opens door.
And then the neighbor talks about “Fat Pam” … and Brennan asks if he must call her Fat Pam … and she proceeds with a lecture on the difference in fat deposits and being overweight.
at Booth’s clapping during the scene, when they are trying to figure out if Fat Pam and Tommy Young were sexually active!

At the gym, Booth is watching a hot girl on a machine.
Brennan: There is a fine line between healthy and vanity.
Booth: Huh?
Brennan: The obsession with physical perfection clouds a society's moral vision. Take Rome in its final days, or the Aztecs -- You're ogling that woman.
Booth: What? No.<stammers> I'm looking at her routine. It's obviously working for her.
When he still ogles her after talking to the manager, Brennan slaps him on the arm and says it’s not helping!

at the Fat Pam interrogation scene and the look Booth gave Brennan at the end.
And Fat Pam implying Brennan is too skinny.
Brennan: What? Why are you coming after me for? <to Booth> Do I look like a scarecrow
Then: What? I am not scrawny. My body mass index is well within normal limits.

Loved Sweets’ take on Fat Pam, to Brennan. And Sweets trying to talk to Brennan. And Brennan wanting him to focus on Fat Pam. Extremely passive aggressive.
At the end, “who’s going to love me now?”
And Sweets is all “don’t touch her” but Booth touches her shoulder, obviously not hearing Sweets outside the interrogation room.

Sweets: The pathology is clear. She’s possessive and amoral.
<Booth on phone indicates them to be quiet>
Sweets: Her emotional connections are forged through manipulation and delusion. Once a connection that tenuious breaks -
Brennan: So she killed Tommy Sour?
Sweets: I can’t say that of course, but she is a dangerous person.
<Booth gets off phone, they all talk about Pam and Booth mocks Sweets, too cute>
Loved Booth and Brennan’s look during that scene.
Then as he was leaving, Sweets: Remember our sessions Tuesday at 4. Trust exercises!

<Brennan enters as AI star Brandon Rogers is singing, Booth spots her>
Booth: Finally. One more show tune, and I was going to start shooting.
Brennan: He has excellent projection. I heard him while I was parking.
Booth: Yeah, okay, I talked to some of the patrons here. Open Mic is held every Monday and Tuesday –
Helen: shhhh
Booth: <laughs quietly> Actually some of the people think this stuff is good.
Brennan: What’s Open Mic night?
Booth: It’s uh, you know, cabaret meets karaoke. The singers who want to get discovered.
Helen: Will you please be quiet?
<Brennan and Booth case talk about the E Coli …>
Brennan: This guy is not bad
Booth: You’re kidding?
Brennan: No he’s - I love his enthusiasm.
Dax: Dude, do I have to get the manager?
Booth, flashing his badge: Dude, you know what? Actually, that’d be great. Why don’t you just point him out to us?

Booth: Everyone thinks they’re the next Kelly Clarkson.
Brennan: Who’s Kelly Clarkson?
Booth: American Idol. Because of you.
Brennan: Because of me?
And Booth basically dismisses her.

Brennan <about some very karaoke performance> This guy is good!
Booth: <laughs> Thank you, Paula!

Loved how Booth found out the talent scout wasn’t real. And how Booth and Brennan confronted them outside.
And Booth told them they were both under investigation for murder.
Brennan: They are?
Booth: No, I just don’t like them.

ECK! And Fat Pam is stalking Booth. My poor Boothie!

at Zach singing and the lab coming in to listen!

Booth and Brennan are having dinner at the diner!
<I missed typing up most of it, but it was SO cute>
Brennan: You enjoy it because you are a superb agent.
Booth: You admire me
Brennan: In certain areas of expertise
Booth: Well I admire your expertise. The science thing.
She talks about being an author too.
Then Pam calls!

Booth asks her not to come “Because you’re you. And a well adjusted woman.”
And she starts off about being a bestselling author and at Booth’s look stops!

Pam: Seeley, please. Pam.
<Booth is very uncomfortable>
Pam: I need to ask you something.
Booth: Usually I ask the questions.
Pam: Are you dating Dr. Brennan.
Booth: Agent Brennan? No. She’s my partner.
Pam: I see.
And she gives him SOCKS!
at her “I can’t wait to tell my mom you said that” line! When he calls her mam. And Booth is CLEARLY freaked!

Loved the discussion between Sweets and Brennan about the singer, presentational and representational singers, and Booth breaking them up.
Booth is clearly not comfortable.
Brennan: How did it go with Pam?
Sweets: Wait, you saw her again?
Booth: What’s the big deal Sweets? She just gave me a pair of socks>
<Brennan laughs>
Booth: That’s not funny.
Sweets: It’s not funny.
Brennan: Then why did I laugh?
Sweets talks about Pam’s classic manipulation.
Booth: Then I’ll just mail the socks back.

Brennan: Until I was 13 I wanted to be the next Cyndi Lauper.
Booth: I’d say you’re kidding, but I don’t think you know how to kid.
Brennan: The other girls and I referred to her as rad. My mother said that I sang just as well.
Booth: As well as Cyndi Lauper?
Brennan: Yes.
Sweets: Mothers do that. It’s healthy.
Brennan: No, this wasn’t just flattery. My mother told me that I sang “Girl’s Just Wanna Have Fun” better than she did.
<Booth laughs>
Sweets: It was an expression of affection, Dr Brennan, not an objective evaluation of your abilities.
Brennan: Well I think you’re wrong.
Booth: Okay then. Go ahead. Belt it out.
Brennan: No. I will not.
Sweets teases her about giving them a few bars.
Booth: Come on.
Brennan: I can’t just bust into song. I have to have music and an appropriate atmosphere of frivolity.
Booth: Diva! Forensic genius bestselling author better than Cyndi Lauper.
Sweets interrupts to talk about the video and talks about muscles on the face and goes to explain it to Booth and Brennan.
Brennan: We know.
Booth: I don’t know. I don’t know that!

at the guitar string cutting the cheese scene!

Hodgins barges into the interviewing room. And Booth clearly isn’t happy with it! But he basically finds out it’s the neighbor who was the murderer.

Loved how Brennan was all “oh, do you have an interest in forensics?” to the neighbor!

End scene at the checker box.
Brennan: What’s going on? Why did you call me here, Booth?
<Booth hands her a microphone>
Booth: You need to sing in front of a live audience, it’s innate
Brennan <laughing nervously>: no way
Booth: Come on, I got the music, the frivolity. What else do you want?
<Crowd cheers her on>
Sweets: You’re very controlled, Dr. Brennan. I think it would do you good to let yourself go.
Brennan: Really?
Sweets: Yeah.
Brennan: What about you?
Sweets: I’ll be singing live …. <talks about that>
Then to Brennan: This is an opportunity. A gift from Agent Booth. And uh, trust your friends. Trust yourself. Let her rip. Let’s hear it.
Booth <grabbing her by both shoulders> : Dr. B, come on!
<Booth pushes her toward the stage, puts his hands on her lower back, tickles her> TOO CUTE!
She’s all nervous, grinning at Booth. Takes her jacket off and slings it on the stage.
And she can sing GOOD. And Booth has this LOOK for her. It’s amazing. He’s so freaking happy. Holds up his lighter. She’s jumping around the stage. Booth is just grinning and half dancing in his seat with her.
Then Fat Pam shows up: Look at me, not her.
Louder: Seeley, what I do is for us.
And Booth jumps up to block Brennan on the stage, to draw his gun. And Fat Pam accidentally shoots Booth instead of Brennan. And Brennan is beyond freaked, and I was TOO stoked and excited and scared to even try to type and she just kept saying stuff like “come on Booth, you can do this” etc, and she knelt beside him and put her hands on his wounds, and picked up Booth’s gun he’d drawn and SHOT Pam dead. And held Booth’s hand and kept begging him to come on!
Brennan: Booth you are gonna be fine. I am here, be calm. You are gonna do this. You're gonna be fine. You'll make this. Come on. Come on Booth.
Brennan, as Booth doesn’t respond : Come on Booth Come on! Come on, come on, come on. <hugs him> Come on, hear me. Come on. <repeats over and over>

I know that's what really scared me. My jaw totally dropped. Even I was yelling at the tv for Booth to make it. OMG again.
