The triangle was definitely meant from the start. Brooke was brought in at first to obviously create 'drama' to get in the way of LP... to make it more complex. It's obvious that LP are painted as endgame from the pilot. Though after Brucas were a real couple in season 3, the Brucas shippers have a different impression about who is the 'meant to be' couple in the triangle, just like the LP shippers will never lose faith that they are endgame couple and have been since day one. The debate will never die.

and s3 just solidified it for me

I know alot of BLers feel that way. I get it. But I don't know... it was always clear to me, if I liked LP together or not, that they are endgame. Mark even said, they designed a world for them to be together. If you remember, Brooke wasn't even in the pilot. It was all about setting up the Lucas/Peyton story. I don't know if you know this, but before OTH was created into a series, it was a movie script called "Ravens". The couple in the movie was LP. So when they convinced Mark to develop it for a TV series, they did need to make some changes. Brooke's character was only added in later when they were re-casting for the pilot. Also, Originally, Lucas's best friend was supposed to be a different character named Regan, [from the movie script] who was supposed to have a crush on him. But the network wanted to make some changes, [it was too 'dawson's creek'] and changed the character to Haley and Mark set up the whole Nathan/Haley love story. That's when they found Bethany Joy and also brought in Brooke/Sophia as a foil for LP. It was always supposed to be a 'triangle' but the whole BL thing evolved way more than it was ever supposed to because of the network in season 2 and because of their real life involvement.

Yeah, the show was originally going to be a movie called "Ravens" and then it was developed for TV. The original pilot only featured Lucas, Peyton, Nathan, and Reagan (who later became Haley and much cooler). Lucas/Peyton was always supposed to be the OTP of the show, but Nathan/Haley stole that title away because of the deathwish best friend love triangle that emerged when Brooke was added in Episode 2 and because we'll they're just plain awesome.

Ok... well here is a different perspective from someone who's actually been in love with their soulmate for 20 years... Nathan and Haley are F'd Up!
They were messed up from the start! Haley fell in love with Nathan when he was a complete ASS, and Dumped him when he became the kind of guy every girl looks for. Of course, I'm just on the last disc of S2... so there is still a lot to see if we're in S5 now... but I hope none of you are wanting to emulate that relationship!!

As far as the Brucas/ Leyton debate...

I think they probably did intend for L/P to be the OTP... they just didn't execute it very well. I can totally see why the Brucas people think they make a better match. After all... Lucas picked Brooke in S2.

its hard... I like Peyton! I have a whole lot more in common with her than Brooke. Brooke is a bit too Cordy-like for me. Though... I love

the Peyton/ Brooke friendship!! It reminds me of my BFF and me!

Look... I know that people get very protective of their fav shows, and this is all JMO!! I'm not really invested in any of these couples. My fav is Peyton/ Jake, and the writing is on the wall with those 2! But I do love the show! There is just the right amount of drama, angst, sex, fun, laughs... it really has it all! I intend to watch it all.

Who knows... I may change my mind about everyone. (Doubtful, but anything is possible.)

ETA- though there is ONE thing I think we can all agree on... DAN IS A COMPLETE AND TOTAL ASS!!!

Don't worry, it's all good. I know we all have our different opinions! You got that right....how protective people can be about their shows. And in this fandom, it's that times a billion.

Anyway, Loved reading your thoughts. It's very interesting getting different perspectives different from my own.

Gah, that was so long ago, what happened to NH in season 2. I try not to think about it, lol. It was...definitely one of the not fun shipping experiences I had. When writers try to do something and it ends up almost destroying one of your couples, yeah, not fun. It took us NH shippers a long time to get over that, though I can never imagine that not being a part of their history. One episode into season 3, and things are pretty clear about what NH represent. They are about forgiveness and overcoming anything and everything together. What Haley did in season 2 wasn't about her leaving him or dumping him. It was supposed to be her messing up for the first time in her entire life by following her dreams. And then her eventually realizing that what she did was selfish and stupid and that it meant nothing without Nathan. Their love is about finding your way back to another person, against the odds, because true love..you always find a way. They executed it horribly in season 2, but the message was supposed to be that, and in season 3 it's beautifully done as well as their reunion. Anyway, this is just my perspective and I wanted to put it out there.

I don't want to say much about the BLP thing b/c it drives me nuts.

He might have picked Brooke in season 2[and I might I add, that was the most random thing ever] but he didn't think Peyton was an option anymore at that point in time. He was hiding with Brooke and always had been. Later seasons explain that. And plus, no matter how many BLers deny it, Chad/Sophia's real life involvement had alot to do with BL being played up for more than it was. Once Mark was able to do what he wanted with LP season 3 and on, everything fell into place for them. They wiped the slate clean with them and reestablished them as friends, than best friends, than as two people who had really fallen in love with each other completely.

ITA Shauna. That's what Nathan/Haley's relationship is about to me as well. Unconditional Love. Forgiveness. Hope.

Of course, Season 3 probably has the best stuff for their relationship, so if you don't like what happens there you probably won't like them period. They're definitely an epic romance and one of the only romantic relationships I know that have lasted over the course of nearly six seasons.

OTH has always been about Nathan/Haley for me. If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't be watching anymore. The show hasn't been good as a whole since Season 1 and frankly wouldn't have lasted if it wasn't for them. They are the heart of the show and James/Joy's chemistry is unmatchable.

Me too.. I can so relate to her and that's why I love her so much. I never really hated Brooke.. well, maybe the time when she was fighting with Peyton.. but I love their friendship.. it's very important.. for both of them.

That's how I see it too. He had his eyes on Peyton first.. and I think that never changed.

I totally agree what you said Shauna.. The reason N/H drew me in is because it's just such a unconditional love.. Two people with two different background try to work out their problems. Honestly I totally love season 1 N/H. The only season that can match it is season 3 but what makes me fall in love with them is season 1. I think I could say one of the main reason I watch OTH is N/H although I also adore L/P because I think that's the end game
