So, I was looking around and just realized we don't really have an official discussion for Buffyverse on here. (and trust me I looked really hard) I had to fix that real quick so hence this thread.

This is open to anything and everything involving Buffyverse.

With that being said, obviously there has to be some ground rules.

[RULES];
1) Absolutely no character bashing or actor bashing, especially Angel & David Boreanaz. (I really can't see why that would be a problem here.

)
2) No ship bashing. This thread is more about general discussion focusing on Buffyverse, but since romantic relationships were a big part of BTVS & Angel, that will come obviously come up in discussion. Shipper wars are

I realize that everyone has different ships, but please don't make this thread ugly by bashing. Healthy debate among ships is more than welcome but please keep it respectful. Thank you.

I'll pretty up this post more later.

How long have you been a fan of Buffyverse? (or are you just a fan of BTVS or Angel the Series separately? Elaborate. )

I started watching Buffy from the premiere on March 10, 1997 and I haven't stopped being a fan 10 years later. I watched both Buffy and Angel religiously until both shows ended. I attended many conventions, parties, and other functions. I own alot of Buffyverse merchandise including trading cards, comic books, T-shirts, etc. I am SO proud to be a fan!

Which show did you prefer Angel's character on...BTVS or Angel the Series? and Why?

I liked him on both shows very much. Obviously on Angel they were able to elaborate further on his character and his past history, but I truly enjoyed him on both shows.

oh boy...here we go

I started watching in Christmas of 2004...my boss, who's now a friend, suggested I watch them...I saw David and the rest is history.

I met Amber last yr at a con and will always remember the experience...she's as sweet as Tara

Which show did you prefer Angel's character on...BTVS or Angel the Series? and Why?

AtS, hands down

I think because I never came into David's fandom until he was much older, I prefer the older Angel

just something about him then

I liked him in BtVS, don't get me wrong...but my preference was AtS

My OTP of Buffyverse and of all-time is Buffy/Angel. It was the first ship I was ever crazy about and I will always have a special place in my heart for it. No other ship will ever be able to live up to them. Their story is so angsty, but just so beautiful and I am proud to have been part of their journey. Susan, ITA. I find Buffy/Angel's story to be the most unique, passionate, intense, and powerful love story ever told.

I grew up with it on my screen from the time I was barely 13 to the end of my teenage years. I watched Buffy and Angel fall in love... and I watched him become Angelus and it nearly ripped me in half knowing that she lost the love of her life just by making love to her boyfriend in a desperate moment. I watched her sacrifice the man she loved to save the world and I watched him come back to her.....and I watched them overcome everything they had been through and be together again. I watched them break up and him try to step aside because he thought that was what she needed to give her a better life. :/

Even though it was beyond unfair to see them have to separate (yet again) and go on to different shows after all they went through....apart or together they are always connected and their paths will always someone merge with one another's. No matter who else came into their lives, a part of each other still remained in them. After all, how can you ever truly let go of your soulmate..the one you fiercely loved and will always love so much it hurts? I know how things ended in Buffyverse. Their were no answers. But I truly believe that Buffy/Angel could have their happy ending one day, the one I know they deserved to get. They are champions of this world, so the timing was never right for them. Something was always getting in the way. They have their destines to fulfill before they can be with each other again. But once that's over, they will find each other yet again and that time it will be for forever. After all Angel did promise that to her once.

Great idea for a thread! I only really have time for one question, so I'll choose the one I can talk most about.

What's your favorite Buffyverse Ship and why?
My answer to this stems from the fact that I did things rather back to front and watched almost the entire first season of Angel before seeing BtVS at all. As a result, Cordy/Angel was the first Angel-centric ship to register on my radar. C/A is my overall favourite Buffy/Angelverse ship and was in fact my first ever serious ship that I supported before I even knew what "shipping" was.

Now bear in mind I had no idea of the characters previous history when I watched them during those early Angel episodes. I just saw a tortured, broody guy and a carefree, happy girl who made him smile. I watched him go from simply seeming to tolerate her and her ways to slowly but surely coming to need and depend on her more than he realised. I watched her stick by his side no matter what and I watched him almost fall to peices at the possibility of losing her in the season finale, and that's when I started to realise that one day, these best friends would fall in love with each other without even realising it. I was "officially" a shipper from then on, though in reality I'd probably fallen hook, line and sinker long before that.

It was around that point that I jumped back and finally started watching the first season of BtVS. I saw the B/A setup from the get-go, and as I was already biased in favour of another couple, I wasn't in the least bit sold. It just seemed way too overdramatic, cliched and angsty compared to the C/A ship of friendship, trust and loyalty that I'd already fallen for. From then on I simply tolerated B/A, nothing more.

Back with AtS, and my C/A love continued to grow. Through the second season I watched the Darla saga, watched him hurt her deeply by firing her and the others, watched how he fought to win her back more than anyone else and how she eventually forgave him and returned to her rightful place at his side. I was already sure her devotion to him ran from more than friendly feelings, and in this season I finally saw hints of him falling for her and not even realising. I've always been a sucker for "best friends to lovers" and I was utterly charmed. The third season was an utter delight as we watched them become a little family with baby Connor, dance around each other, both afraid to admit their feelings, and in the finale it looked like we'd finally get a payoff before it was all cruelly taken away.

The fourth season started promisingly, with his desperation to get her back and his admission in Ground State that he loved her, then the Jasmine arc kicked in and everything went to hell. She slept with his son (albeit while posessed) and eventually slipped in to a mystical coma, while the gang did the unthinkable by taking control of their former worst enemies. All seemed lost.

During early season five we watched as Angel simply went through the motions, with no real purpose or direction, becomingly increasingly disillusioned in the process, in desperate need of inspiration and a boot up the arse. This was duly delivered in You're Welcome with the return of Cordy, who single handedly made him believe in himself once more and got him back on track. The ending was of course heartbreaking, with that final kiss between the two heroes, before we're told she's actually dead. The rest of the season played out with no final answer on the romance issue in any form.

Shipping C/A was a challenging experience, and I feel C/A fans got the rough end of the stick most of the time, but I never regretted a single second. I saw in them a realistic love story, a story that started from a solid friendship, had highs, lows and everything in between, and kept me rooting for them through it all. Of course I wish things had ended differently, but I'll always love them and they'll always hold a special place in my heart.

Its very interesting hearing your perspective on why you love Cordy/Angel together. It's so refreshing to actually see something like your post... instead of a post where somebody would list a few reasons why they love CA and then the majority being reasons to hate Angel with somebody else. I'm more about posting about the love than my hate of something else.

And I can definitely see that you'd have a different perspective of things having started watching Angel first.

Can I ask, what made you start with Angel first and not BTVS?

In speaking of the whole friends, something more thing.....It's funny because I LOVE the best friends to lovers thing, *coughjustlookatmyicon*cough*.. BUT, I just never saw it that way on Angel. I guess because I grew up with watching the Buffy/Angel romance on my screen, my perspective is totally different on how I view Cordy/Angel. Buffy/Angel's love story, everything they been through .....was a big part of me and it was something very special to me (they were my first ship after all) and anything else that would come in the way, felt like a HUGE intrusion. So um yeah, Angel going to his own show, not fun..

I love his show, don't get me wrong. But I doubt it's very common to find an OTP (one true paring) splitting up the way BA did... moving onto separate shows and with that, removing all the hope for them to be together - as in a couple - on screen again..

Thank you dear - I'm very flattered. I really wanted my post to convey why I loved C/A on it's own mertis, as opposed to making out it was better or superior to B/A in any way. So I therefore thought that relating my feelings and experiences in regards to just the C/A ship as the seasons passed would be most effective. I wanted a post that showed how I fell for them without even realising, similiar to how I feel the characters fell for each other. Your lovely response shows me that I achieved my goal, and I'm very pleased about that as well as grateful for your kind words.

It all started after BtVS's fourth season and Angel's first season had aired over here. I had a friend who was totally crazy about Angel and DB and went on about the show constantly. she loved BtVS too, but Angel was what she raved about. I was at the library one day and came across the first eight Angel episodes on video. I remembered her constant nattering, and decided to get them out and see all the fuss. I was of course immediately hooked and absolutely had to see the rest of the season come hell or high water. It was only after acheiving this that I remembered BtVS existed too, and went back and started watching it, and by that point I was obviously already biased in favour of what I'd seen on Angel. So you see, it's all the fault of a friend who wouldn't shut up!

I think that's why I'm more into the C/A pairing...I came into the show *after* the fact...like I said...when Davie was 'grown'...not the same man back in the day, you know...? so I saw him with Cordy more...but I can totally see your view...you grew up with B/A...makes sense

That was one of the best posts I ever read about Cordy/Angel, honestly. I understand why you love them so much.

.And I can see after watching only 8 episodes of Angel season 1, why you'd be hooked.

I just love hearing stories about how people got involved in Buffyverse.

It's my longest running fandom EVER. I've been watching the show all the way from the very beginning. From the very first airing of the Buffy Pilot. When the BTVS pilot aired in 1997, I was only in 7th grade,
