I'm not a huge fan of his looks in the flashbacks. He was the hottest in S2 of BTVS for me.

See for me the hair was just part of the look... hey there were no salon cuts back then... men were rough and straggly.. some wore it better than others and Angelus wore it for me.. LOL.. But I definitely agree he was so very do-able in S2 for sure.. very, very hot and just sex on legs..
