welcome back Tahra

that's cool that you know all that stuff about scents, I would have done the same thing as Erika , I hope it didnt hurt your nose that bad.

Quote:
In the Roswell High books by Melinda Metz, the six of them had their own individual scents. I think Liz's was ylang-ylang and Alex's was orange. I don't know. But Michael's was eucalyptus and Maria's scent was rose. And book Maria, who had the biggest crush on Book Michael, concocted a scent combining their scents together. Book Michael really liked it. He called it "cough drops and flowers".
I never read the books. Sounds good though. I like the scents Melinda Metz gave them. It suits them , I'd pick something citrus like for myself.

Quote:
Of all the female Roswellians, I think I'd want to identify with Maria the most. Or Tess! Oh, but relating with a beautiful, vulnerable alien sounds real cool too. Unfortunately though, I think I'm more like Liz. I get to be the boring small town girl. Crud
Well if I'd have to identify myself when one of the girls, I'd probably go with Isabel. But then again I dont know?!

Jen what do you think, who'd I be?

I personally thought the books were good. The Roswell High Series, I mean. Don't even bother with the rest. A lot of people think Roswell High was written for a younger age group, like maybe prepubescent girls. But I really liked it. (Guess that says a lot about my mentality, huh?) And I really liked the Candy. Not quite like the Candy on the show because they start out as friends before anything. And the group dynamic was really good.

I must tell you, though, that our Teflon babe isn't quite as sarcastic and bold. Book Maria is a lot sweeter and more innocent. Plus she has a younger brother.

I think I'm telling too much now. Just go read it.

And nope, the oils didn't really hurt my nose. 'Irritate' would be a much better word.

Yes "irratate" would be

Sorry my warning came too late.

Mum and I are very much into all that "sniffing stuff" as you put it. I have Essential Oil Burners and stuff like that all over my room.

If you ever want to know the properties of a certain one, I can tell you, lol. It's absolutely great knowing it all. You can actually make your own oils if you know what to use and how to do it, plus from all the oils you can make all your own bath smellies!

Okay, rambling now.

I identify with both Maria and Tess. In fact, I took a quiz and I got Tess ("I've been through hell and tho you may not be able to see it at first, I'm very damaged by my past. I've learned to do right, but it's not always clear.") but Maria from the tv show definately has a lot of the same characteristics as me.

Maria from the books is different. I actually bought all ten books in one week because I enjoyed them all so much. I've never even picked up any of the other books, and from what I understand, I don't want to.

But you should definately have a read of them... Brilliantly written, Melinda Metz is an awesome writer, and altho the characters are different (some are wayyy different), circumstances have changed, and there are some new characters, they are still really really good.

And the heart of the books, hasn't changed from what the heart of the show was meant to be.

And Candy is still cute!!! And oh so "ahhhhhh"

Yes... Christina Ricci was the one who "Taped her Boobs".

In fact, after watching that movie one day when I was like 13, my best mate and myself ran into my room and did it too. But then my mum caught us!!

Heeeeeeee, Now and Then is one of my favorite movies. Classic.

I have aroma therapy oils in the same type of bottles Maria had but they're for candles...they're kind of strong so I only take a little whiff if anything. The one I have next to me now is Lavendar Tangerine. Smells pretty.

Airie75 Welcome to the Teflon thread!

I seriously have to watch Now&Then again. Can't really remember it much anymore. Except for the boob-taping. And yeah, the pudding. I watch a movie and the only thing I remember are bras and boobs. Huh.

I loved the books too! I actually thought their friendships were much stronger in the book series. Oh and the Candy

You do seem to know a lot about sniffing stuff. I don't know squat about that. Obviously.

And really, just getting myself in the shower is already a feat in itself. I'm too lazy to take a bath sometimes. Let alone be bothered with bath smellies. Kidding... or not

That's funny that you did the taping thing. Because I did it too. I hated boobs a lot! Yeesh, just hated them! You can imagine how I would react to a water bra. I'm so different from Maria, but she's still my favorite character.

Doy Boobs and bras....

Seriously good movie tho. I love it.

The Candy in the books was good. Little weird compared to the program, but still really good. But then compared to the show I think the books will always be weird, especially if you read the books after watching it.

Altho I think reading them afterwards is better. Coz imagine if you'd read the books first and really enjoyed them, and then watched the show based on it. It would be a little disappointing.

When it comes to "Sniffing Stuff", I'm the expert.

I'm the same when it comes to baths and stuff. I only like having a bath when there's no one else in the house. Because otherwise I just can't relax. But when there's noone here, I put candles everywhere, oil burners, and have my discman playing some nice relaxing music, and just vege out. It's sooo good!

Oh I'm completely different to Maria in the boobs department. I have big ones, and I wish I didn't!

Lucii - Lavender Tangerine??? What a contrast! That's kinda wrong.

See Lavender is used for sleeping. If you're an insomniac (like myself) then a few drops of Lavender in your pillow will make it a lot easier. It's soo good for relaxing and sleeping easier. Or have it burning while relaxing in bed before sleeping.

Tangerine is an "awake" scent. Like Orange's and Lemon's. It's best used in the morning to help wake you up. Definately a scent if you're in a lazy mood, it stimulates your sense's and makes you feel more alive, awake and active.

So as you see, they're kind of conflicting! But I bet it smells nice.

Welcome Aria75, to the domain of the Teflon and Maria!!

Tahra Lucii

Me too.

Although...do you think maybe we just gave a little too much information there?

I have to agree with you regarding the book series. It's better that you read them after seeing the show. Because it really sucks having all these characters or scenarios built up in your head and see something that doesn't quite meet your expectations, so...

And it's been happening a lot to me lately. I hated the third movie of the Harry Potter series because of the ideas that I formulated in my brain while I was reading.

But back on topic to Maria. I recently listened to the commentaries by Thania St. John on The Balance and she mentions during the "Maria feeding Isabel" scene how Maria appears to be a flaky character but then in time of crisis (Michael's illness in that case), she becomes a strong foundation where the group rests on. Like her taking care of Michael, and also Isabel, without panicking. Sure, she worried about Michael but she kept her cool during the entire episode. I agree with that statement. I felt that Maria and Alex were some of the strongest characters during the first season.

I agree with that. I never saw Maria as a person who would bail on someone she cares about. I thought Maria was stronger than Liz in some situations, and like you said, her and Alex were one of the strongest ones and the ones you could really count on in season 1.

Nicky - Thank you soo much for the awesome card! I loved your drawings! So frigging cute

Quite possibly!!

Yea... I'm really glad I read the books afterward, altho I didn't find the same thing with Harry Potter.

I actually found that they did the third movie soo much like the book. Obviously they left things out, of course, as they have to, but I still enjoyed it. The one I'm waiting for is number four on the big screen! The fourth book was my favourite!

Anyways, back OnT.

What scene was that?? I totally can't remember?

But I do agree that Maria was a strong person. She had to be I guess, you know, with dealing with her dad leaving, and being there for her mum and all. And Alex. All though I never saw him as strong as Maria. Yes, he had strength, and he was there for them unconditionally, but I always saw Maria as being the real force behind the group.

Especially in the second season when she was friends with them all. She was there for everyone at any time... Taking on all their problems on top of her own, and helping them deal with theirs instead of puching them to help her.

I never liked Liz in that respect. Liz pretty much used Maria whenever things went wrong in her life. But if anything was to go wrong in Maria's life, we generally saw Maria dealing with it on her own. Liz would be off in lala land, and Maria would be in pain. But Liz didn't seem to care. I dunno... Maybe I'm just biased.

Anyways... Merry Christmas to everyone. Tomorrow is Christmas here, so looking forward to opening all the pressie under the tree... And giving all my pressies to people!! Hope everyone has a good day.

Tahra

Book 4 was awesome but I'm very partial towards The Prisoner of Azkaban. That was my favorite.

And I had just heard that they're gonna release the 6th book on July 16th 2005. Yay!

Actually, it's not so much "feeding" as it is more of Maria 'handing' a plate and Tabasco sauce to Isabel. That was a very nice moment between them, with Maria admitting that she cares for Michael and Isabel saying that she knew. I'm not sure I'd be anywhere near as nice to a girl who basically shoos me out of a room and calls me a "stranger". But it's a good thing Maria understood Isabel's condition. And she even looked out for her.

Maria truly had a strong solid foundation behind all that ditzy blabbermouth. I always saw her as someone who was headstrong and went for what she wants without getting carried away. She stood by her principles while supporting the people she cares for. While they did clash some of the time, Maria always knew what was important. And as much as she loved Michael and stood by him, she managed not to get abused by the relationship because she always said what was on her mind. (not thanking her in Toy House and about getting her "that damn present" on ARCC ) That's why S3 sucked so much...

I always felt Maria was stronger than Liz. Actually, at times I even felt that she was smarter in spite of Liz being "the scientist." Or maybe they're just different. Liz is intelligent and scientific, while Maria is wise and street smart. She was no-nonsense and had the know-how.

You and me both, Tahra

And Merry Christmas to all the Teflons! Looking forward to the giftgiving too. I think we've been nice kids this year.

Or maybe because the movies sucked

I mean, the visuals were purty, but if you're looking for "true to the books", then....no.

Also a sure possibility...

BTW, I like your avie...

*sings Jackie, I want you backie...*

(Yes, I am quite the poet )

But seriously, yeah. The effects were very nice, but once you compare it to the books, the storyline itself comes out lacking and well, different.

And I Maria (just so it's not completely OT)
