| Ooh. Great moments. I was cringing when they saw Max at the bus. And Alex was hilarioius in that ep too. Notice all the laughing smilies we have in this thread. I don't think it's possible to have a discussion regarding Maria without laughing out loud. | |||

| Yeah, Maria is the funniest character on Roswell. Allthough I thought that sometimes she was just used for comic relief. She never got as much attention as Liz and her feelings. But I guess it was better that way, I mean look at S3, when they finally gave her a real storyline . They totally messed up her character with it.__________________ Jen ♥ | |||

Jason is cute, I just can't stand Max. I got the season 2 DVD today, I went all over the city to find it and my brother gave me the money for it, because it's $110 dollars here. So, I watched summer of 47' and Ask not. It's so cute. I love those little moments and Hal and Betty are cute. "That's no way to talk to a lady" And they way Hal replied is funny.

| Max was okay for me at first, but he was becoming a prick late S2. So S2, you're so lucky you have the DVDs! We don't even have the first season here. I think I'm the only one who likes Roswell in this country. But anyway, So47 was a good ep. I liked Betty. So feisty! Very Maria And I must say, there's not a lot of brothers willing to give $110. Unlike mine, for instance. What a prick. Kinda like Max, really. But even he is not as boring. Kinda went OT there, but yeah S2 had lots of great moments. Candy moments most of all! Makes roaming all around the city worth it, huh? But Teflon-wise, I still prefer Season 1 Maria! Quote:
But I do feel Maria had some layers. Just that the show dealt with it badly. I even think Maria was one of the most flawed characters in Roswell. That's why her and Michael make the perfect pair. Each had issues of their own and they worked on it together. But I realize that this isn't the Candy thread, so back to Maria. She has so much potential for all those touchy-feely stuff. Her dad left her when she was 7-ish, right? Thus major abandonment issues. She was raised alone by her mother, who most probably went to several dates when Maria was young. That doesn't give a girl the best image of guys or romance. And compared to her friends, she didn't have much money growing up. When she speaks to Liz in the Pilot, she mentions that Liz the is only person she can completely trust. With her dad leaving, Maria finds it hard to just trust people. Also, she refers to herself as the wacky sidekick, Maria accepts staying behind Liz while Liz gets to bask and shine in the limelight. Maybe she thinks lower of herself than she actually deserves. Her dad leaving could have triggered that thought. In the Morning After, she says that NO ONE is who they say they are. She was referring to Ms. Topolsky, but it's evident that behind all the rants and babbles, Maria hides a side of her own too. In Monsters and 285 South, we learn about her dad, her dream of him coming back and how she cares for a family. Remember when she tells Sheriff Valenti that they wouldn't want to ruin any families? In Independence Day, we see her relationship with Amy and how sometimes she has to play the "mother" in their relationship because Amy herself needed some growing up to do. She lies to Michael about the flashes in Sexual Healing and then tells him how she lies all the time but it was only then that she admitted it to someone. Maria hides something behind that blabbermouth, the same way Isabel hides behind her bitchy facade or Michael behind his stonewall. Of course, I don't think she's been faking it all those years. Just that she's hiding this girl who yearns for a family and is terrified of being left yet again (maybe that's why she confronted Michael in Toy House when he didn't thank her) And everytime Michael was frightened and left her, that just contibutes to her abandonment issues. She didn't have it easy in life. That's why I hate it when people just think of Maria as Michael's girlfriend. I love her character. And even if the show didn't focus so much on her issues and she was used solely for comic relief, I still like her. And I'd prefer her that way if she only turns out as angsty and serious like Liz. Sorry for that rant. Hope it made sense.

| I totally agree with what you said, doy. What I mean was that Maria never got much screentime unless it was with Liz or all of them. It's not that she never had alone screentime, it's just that I think her character would have had so much potential for interesting storylines and scenes. I would have loved to have seen more of her Mom and the story with her father. I think that would have made some good moments, instead of just filling the time with endless Max/Liz staring. I hope I didn't offend anyone, but I'm not really a dreamer .__________________ Jen ♥ Last edited by -CherryPixie- : 11-08-2004 at 05:30 PM. | |||

| ![]() you guys are so right. More Maria would have meant, making the story a lot more intressting and giving her more background information. Not only her though, Kyle and her mom should have got more screentime too. Nicky ![]() __________________ | |||

| See there is a complexity to it. Does more screen time really mean a better character? Sure, they would have developed her character a little bit more if the seasons were to continue, but look at Liz and Max who invaded the screentime. They got boring, because were like yeah they are cute and I don't think I want to isk that, because when they actually gave Maria a storyline it was shocking and she ended up doing everything uncharacteristically. So, I don't think more screen time, means better. | |||

| I see what you're all saying. Quantity doesn't always mean quality. And certainly not on Max and Liz's case (M&L gets bashed a lot in this place, don't they?) But I guess it depends. If I only saw the first season, I would definitely ask for more Maria screentime. But now that I've seen all three seasons, and I have witnessed just how well the writers can butcher a character, I'm just thankful Maria didn't appear as much as Max or Liz or Isabel. | |||

| Where are all the Teflons? Maria's way too cool a character for her thread to die...I was wondering, have any of you tried aromatherapy? Or maybe sniffed some some cedar oil just because Maria liked it? | |||

| Yes, Maria is such a sarcastic, crazy, blabbering doll (at least in S1&2). I love her! ![]() So cedar oil smells weird? I guess you have to be a true Deluca to appreciate it. I've been wanting to try it for the longest time though. But my mom brought me eucalyptus and rose oils. In the Roswell High books by Melinda Metz, the six of them had their own individual scents. I think Liz's was ylang-ylang and Alex's was orange. I don't know. But Michael's was eucalyptus and Maria's scent was rose. And book Maria, who had the biggest crush on Book Michael, concocted a scent combining their scents together. Book Michael really liked it. He called it "cough drops and flowers". Now I must try that! | |||

| Hi everyone! I'm back from my long holiday in Aussie to the real world. Hows everything going? Quote:
)Love the photo's. Doy... The combo of those two isn't the nicest... I warn you. It's because they're conflicting scents. My mum and I have a lot to do with Herbal remedies and the Oils. If you are going to do it, use the scented ones, not the essential oils. The essential oils will not mix well with each other, at all. They have completely contrasting effects on the body. You'd do better to go get just the scents and see if you like that, then you can burn it in an oil burner, and it wont effect you at all... Except for maybe your nose, ![]() Just thought I'd let you know. Cedar is quite nice, I found. It's great for Acne. I grew up myself very much like Maria. I'm the same way with my mother sometimes, but I love her to bits. I think that's why I identify with Maria's character so much. We're so much alike. Tahra __________________

| Hey! Cool! You're back! The Lifesavers thread has been very lonely without you. ![]() Quote:
Thanks for the warning though. I think I'm just gonna leave all this sniffing stuff (sounds bad, doesn't it?) to Maria and her mom. All this talk about essential oils and herbs and scents is confusing me. ![]() Of all the female Roswellians, I think I'd want to identify with Maria the most. Or Tess! Oh, but relating with a beautiful, vulnerable alien sounds real cool too. Unfortunately though, I think I'm more like Liz. I get to be the boring small town girl. Crud ![]() Now and Then was a really cute movie. But I don't remember much about it. I think I was still very busy eating paste when that movie was released. I remember liking Christina Ricci's character though. She was the one who taped her boobs, right?
