Oh so you're half flip...cool And yeah, I noticed that there are a lot of Filipinos around here, and a lot in the Candy fandom as well. One of my favorite Candy authors, catheryne, i think, is a Filipino too. She wrote a fic set in Manila during the Spanish Colonization, where our favorite couple were Hispanics. It was pretty good.

SpinBeneathCandy: Are you sure you wanna join? It's not very fun being one sometimes... but still, like Michael said, "I wouldn't trade it for anything." Woah. Where did that come from?

Oh and it turned out that the place we were going to had a cable connection, so I did see 285 South after all! Yay!

YAY! I am so glad! Now, that ep is really a Candy ep! Which brings me back to my hatred for M/L. I'm sorry all you Dreamers out there, or not but I hated how they made the promo and all seem like it was all about M/L when it was really about M&M.

285 South is my favorite season 1 episode. M/M were SO cute in this episode, everytime I see it I laugh. I've seen it so many times I know almost all the words.
My favorite part was when Michael sat in the backseat of the Jetta and the alien blow-up pops out of the box. "Nice." "What? My mother makes them what?" Priceless.

I don't know about the promos because I haven't seen them, but I was practically yelling at the television whenever they'd switch the scene back to the jeep. Too boring! Let it stay on M&M. Heh. No offense.

And I hated Isabel for finding the Jetta parked outside the model! Dang! They should've been left alone...

lesleykj: Haha! I love that scene, and Maria's expression was indeed classic! I also adore the look on her face when she said "So do you!" And who could forget the line "You're kidnapping me! No wait you're abducting me!" or "It's like the porno version of Aladdin" There are tons more in that episode!

Hi Teflons!!! I'm here too... trying to answer Anyanka's question...

Maria in S1- I thought she was most entertaining in this season. She had some of the best and funniest lines, and I really loved her no-bull**** attitude. S1 Roswell was very melodramatic, and she usually livens up the atmosphere with her quirky assertions and the sparks she shares with Michael. At the same time, we saw her abandonment issues, her blooming relationship with Michael and her undying loyalty to her friends. She was a very colorful character. Loved every second she was on screen.

Maria, S2- She was sexier this time around, wearing less and less fabric. It's okay, but what I loved most about Maria, was that she was not the pretty girl on the show. Not the doe-eyed beautiful girl or the gorgeous statuesque woman, she was just Maria, the ever paranoid, oil-sniffing, blabbermouth Deluca. Of course, she was still that this season, but the Teflon was slowly wearing out, IMO. During the first episodes, she was chasing Michael, and he was investigating some skank. As a Candy, I liked that she didn't give up on him, but as a Teflon, I feel that
she should have made Michael work for her attention. Even for just a short while. But her acceptance of Michael leaving in Departure was a testament of how much she's grown over the two years. Some would call her a doormat for that, but I call it true love. Besides, what would you want her to do at their last hour? Fight with him because he didn't tell her sooner? She made the right grownup decision of accepting, IMO

Maria, S3- Hmm. Very few people liked S3 Maria, and I guess I'm one of them. I could never justify how other fans would start hating her because she broke up with Michael. I actually understood her reasons, she was losing herself too much with him. For the last two seasons (S2 and S3), Maria was popular only because of her relationship with Michael. I thought she was losing her identity back then, especially because I wasn't seeing the loud Maria, I think she cracked liked two or three jokes this season. She needs a part of her life that doesn't involve Michael completely, and I really wanted to see some growth out of Maria the individual and not just Candy. She was living her life through Michael. And when she got her own storyline, the writers ruined that for her too. This season showed a complicated Maria, but I still liked her. Not the bold Maria I knew, but still Maria nonetheless. In the end, I liked how she realized she really needed Michael, but I don't think her issues resolved.

I just realized I posted a whole novel-length post full of nonsense without answering Anyanka's question. I liked S1 Maria the best!
That was the Teflon season!

hey
that was really interesting... I agree in many thing you said.

In S3, Maria just wasn't Maria anymore, she was nothing compared to S1.
Of course people grow and mature, but she just didn't have the same attitude as in S1 or S2. I loved the candy we got, through out the first 2 seasons, I have to admitt that I also started watching the show only because of M&M, the little fights they would put on or Michael not trying to show his feeling for Maria. It was the best!

anyanka, ditto S1 was my favorite!

I didn't like Maria in s3 at all. True, people grow up and move on but for me, it just changed her whole character and she was never the same. She seemed unhappy through the whole season and I think it seemed almost forced all that she did. They totally ruined her spirit.

Ditto, but see you wouldn't expect Maria to be the one that moved on. Everyone knew if the realtionship ended it would be on Michael's behalf. That's why everything got thrown out of play. Maria has always been a big fan of being monogmous to one another. She wouldn't just throw that away for an old friend. ( that look 50 billion times worse than michael!). It was just retarded.

I understand what you guys mean, about Maria acting out of character (It's S3, who wasn't?). The whole season was very sad for her. She was getting too attached to Michael, which I think started around Skins and Bones, when she was chasing her man around. S1 Maria wouldn't be as weak. So when Michael found new friends, she felt threatened and she didn't know who she was supposed to be anymore. It's really sad what the writers did to her.

But in defense of Maria, I don't think the breakup was a result of her "moving on". But in fact, the exact opposite, the girl we knew was lost. And I don't think she threw away the relationship for an old friend. Noooo. She had to do it for herself. Billy was just a useless plot device. (But I agree, he looks billion times worse than Michael) What was really retarded though was the breakup speech. "The girl you knew for the past three years, it's not me." Talk about crap!

I blame all the writers for this stupidity and not the character of Maria. I could never not like Maria. Annoyed sometimes, yeah, but I'm too much of a Teflon to hate her. I love her too much. Teehee.
