"Simprovised" - Episode Discussion

From The Simpsons Archive

Simprovised
Episode VABF13

Homer takes up stand-up comedy to gain confidence in public speaking after making a mess of a speech at work; Marge decides to rebuild Bart's treehouse; the last three minutes will feature Homer "live" (actually Dan Castellaneta being motion captured)

There will be two different endings - one for the Eastern and Central time zones, and one for the Pacific time zone

I love improv so I liked the premise but I wasn't crazy about the actual episode. It seemed like they wrote the whole thing just to set up the Homer Live! idea, and then it still felt disjointed at the end. Too bad the new Whose Line doesn't air on FOX or they could've done a fun crossover.

It was a cool concept and I'm glad they tried something new, but the execution could've been better, especially if they were going to do so much promotion for it. I only saw the west coast airing, so hopefully they'll upload the east coast on Youtube or something. I did enjoy the improv part by itself.

interesting quote by homer saying this is "the last episode of the simpsons ever"

"Followed by the simpsons will go on, FOREVER!"

^ Both of which are not true

EDIT If anyone saw the 1080p version there is a prerecorded "presidential announcement" by homer to fill in the live talking

I loved all the stuff about the treehouse. It's always been one of my favourite things about the Simpsons, since no one seems to have tree houses anymore! I loved mine as a kid. This episode had me reminiscing!

The footstep amplifier.

Completely agree.

Yeah, I enjoyed the treehouse scenes, too. Especially the brief nod to the TOH episodes! The footstep amplifier was great. And the therapy hounds.

This article explains in detail how they pulled off the live animation. Fascinating stuff, if anyone is interested in taking a peek at the process. It's amazing what we can do with technology now.
