I also love continuity in TV. Many shows do a poor job of it, and I don't expect much from The Simpsons just given the nature of the show. But it's nice when we get little mentions here and there.

Yeah with a cartoon there's really no expectations with that type of thing, which is why it's that much more exciting when they do bring past stuff up.

Exactly.

And with a show that's been on as long as this one, sometimes (especially the more subtle mentions) are like a nod to the viewers who've been fans since the beginning or have seen every episode more than once, etc. Although I certainly don't count myself in that category, it feels a bit like you're in on an inside joke when you catch a reference.
